Hi.
I was wondering if anybody has ever had an issue with this card Gigabyte GTX 780Ti Windforce 1150/7000. I got the latest drivers from Nvidia(updated when I've noticed the issues hoping it would help) I have also used graphics driver uninstaller. Recently i have noticed that video card driver crashes and message pops from the Nvidia GeForce experience that the driver has crashed or stopped working. This only occurs during games (notice that playing Grim Dawn)
I tried to fiddle with the settings and switched off AA and AF. Since then it has not occurred although i didn't play long. With the settings on it happens at random times.
I'm checking my GPU temps and they are not going higher than 60 degrees Celsius.
Any advice what might be the problem? Could this be related to some API or maybe OS ?

Thanks for all the help :)

You didn't say but by assumption, you don't overclock the GPU? Nvidia driver crashes during gaming can ocurr with an unstable (too high) overclock.

This is the clock rate set by Gigabyte there's no OC.I can provide screen shots if it helps. Maybe if i uninstall the EVGA precision and everything will come back to normal(maybe there's something jammed not sure) it starts to be ok.

Been thinking that maybe my Vmem is running out and that's why the driver crashes but i observed it doesn't. So I can exclude that as an issue.

Look for a game patch, motherboard chipset drivers. If there was an older driver working properly go back to it.

Last effort is to pull the card apart and replace the gpu thermal compound and any thermal pads/tim on vrm circuits and ram chips.

How old is your power supply?

Hi there.
Thanks for the reply. My PSU is like 3-4 years but I doubt that would be the problem(although I can trying testing it if there's a way?). I been thinking of replacing pads and thermal paste although I haven't seen any spikes in temps while playing. My fan is cranked up a bit to stay always under 60 unless really have load but 70 is the top temp. I might get another check and play game longer with AA and AF off to see if the driver issue occurs again. My motherboard has the latest drivers although I can always verify if something changed.
With the driver version it has started since 2 updates back. Maybe going back to the older driver will help.

Thanks for help :)

your temps are ultra fine if 70c is your max temp,
have you ever tried to reinstall drivers? clean all your drives of junk, also delete / uninstall programs you dont use, and also delete all nvidia drivers, reboot and install again nvidia experience, then update all, i dont think its your psu either.
If possible specify temps, idle, full load,

normally the ingame settings should not make a difference.
looking under the hood is never bad after using it 1 or 2 years

i have gotten sh*t loads of weird errors while playing some steam games, i normally check game integrity, also reinstall Nividia drivers in the exact order i've mentioned before, always work, might be a software caused error since OP its not getting bricks or artifacts on screen, or getting screen frozen...

Ive seen reputable brands get weak. Id say try the thermal compound and thermal pads first and give that hsf a thorough cleaning. Last but not least is a PSU or GPU swap.

This is a quite great advise, but the temps on that card arent high or anomalous....

His card is a couple of years old now. Card manufacturers buy bulk cheap compounds and pads just like how OEMs like Dell, HP, Apple buy compounds for CPUs and heatsinks on boards. It would be good to cover that base first then try software. After that time for new gpu and possibly psu.

Guys. Thanks for all the hints. I've reinstalled the drivers and rolled back to an older version. I played yesterday for over 1.5hour and all fine. It would seem that steam as somebody mentioned has a problem if there's an inconsistency in some drivers maybe and that may cause crashes. So far nothing happened but I'm thinking of replacing the pads and thermal paste(got spare grizzly kryonaut). I hope that will improve the performance. Also I have changed the power management in NV driver for performance(saw that on one of the forums) There was also hints with the driver mod but that would be the last resort.

Thanks for discussion and help :D

leave the thermal pads alone if they seem okay, but clean as possible heatsink, fan blades and cooler itself, video cards tend to keep dust inside,

thermal pads could have a specific measure, so you might need to purchase several packs to fit the correct measure!

Oh i see. Honestly didn't realize that with the pads. Honestly crash happened again but long time had passed. Not sure now where to look for a problem. The entire card is clean since i started with wiping all the dust and crap that might be there.
i will look for any patches for the game since with this one got the most problems. Any other is ok maybe it's just the game issue.

will be better to perform a watch there, check your temps constantly while gaming, instal HWinfo and run sensors every time you use the computer, then verify temps, if they tend to get hotter you must taje cooler apart, perform a deep clean and repaste if you took cooler apart, why? cuz if you brake the bond of the TIM [thermal interface material] temps will be affected,

Wisely some one said, don't fix what isn't broken, but sometimes a re-paste could bring better temps with the same settings...

I was hoping that this issue will get solved with driver reinstallation but I guess it didn't solve it for good. The thing is it's just this one game all other are working fine. Anyway I will change the thermal paste since I got spares and will take a look what happens. The temps are very much ok and they are being monitored by me every time while gaming.

Regards,
It's from steam. I wrote about it in earlier posts. :). Tried to get a patch but no patch available. Switched settings in the NVdriver power management for max performance. I read that this might help instead of Adaptive. It is better but I had one crash anyway. Well better one than constant at random time.

then it's mkre than likely the game... for whatever reason.

Clearly it's not temps.. clearly you don't need a repaste...I wouldn't bother.

Well I think so too but either way can re-paste to make sure. I got spares and a good one besides I don't know what paste is under the hood.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Well I think so too but either way can re-paste to make sure. I got spares and a good one besides I don't know what paste is under the hood.
Its your time bud... you can clearly see temperatures are OK on the core. You aren't changing the thermal pads which cover the VRMs so, if that was the problem, it will still be a problem.

What you said is that there's a button I can click to check integrity of files etc. in steam? If that's the case I can try it and see what I will get. Or write to support and see what they answer.

The 780 TI has certain CLOCK settings which will only work with certain deviders(I think it was muliti's of 12)so if I were to over clock but go out side the devider of 12 say 1033 then my drivers would crash. But if I set it to 1032(divider of 12)it would work fine. Hope it helps you!

Not sure what you are talking exactly about. I didn't OC anything. it came OC'ed with Gigabyte since mine is the strongest of the existing. 1150/7000 Mhz. I didn't do anything to it afterwards. So you can say it's OC'ed stock from my stand point. So I guess Gigabyte guys know about the dividers :)
