Penny for your thoughts?

money seems is no prob here.
what is the main task for this pc? gaming?

i personally would go with 4x8gb ram and a cheaper motherboard(350.- euro is a lot for z270 and its not faster)
and with the saved money i would get a bigger ssd-minimum 1tb

He can afford it and it's a good Bord.

Note: get the best if you can.

Well, he doesn't tell us what he want's to use that thing for.

Personally I'd drop to a more reasonable motherboard (good ones can be found @200€) + 32GB and instead go for a 1TB SSD or a 2nd SSD as scratch disk if he s into video work. Makes more sense to me.

There is not too much to say:

i7 7700K Kaby Lake 4.2GHz
Asus Maximus IX Formula Mobo
Asus Strix GTX 1080 Graphics Card
NZXT Kraken X62 AIO Cooler
G.SKILL Trident Series 64GB
Samsung 960 EVO 500GB
WD Black 5TB HDD
Asus Rog PG348Q 34" Curved

That's a Gaming Machine.

Note: maybe i am wrong, could be a machine to watch YouTube videos and play some music

64GB RAM doesnt make much sense for gaming, but for video work ... . Though in that case case, I 'd ditch Z-platform completly.

To me this build looks more like "to much money, not sure where to put it".

The Thread title says (First time PC build)

I guess he just need a few advices to choose the right hardware without spending that much money, i always buy Overkill amounts of Ram but this time i have to say that 64GB it's too much.

BINGO!!!! Thank you. :)

ok

Okay I need advice/help. I've installed the cooler backplate, then screwed my standoffs in from the front of the mobo. Now i have 4 standoffs sticking up, which leads me to believe I'm ready to screw down the cooler over my proc. I'm stuck here because the standoffs are able to wiggle around. arent they supposed to be sturdy? Im a little scared to screwdown my water pump without knowing for sure if the foundation is supposed to be solid/secure to the mobo, or if it will get secure when i tighten it down. Did this make sense? If not I apologize. Thank you all for your time and help with this.

Future proofing?

Sounds like you bought everything already. What do you mean by 4 standoff sticking up? The atx motherboard should cover most standoff already.

I actually think that the "wiggle" is designed in. As long as the standoffs are securely tightened to the backplate, it's okay.

I can't decide if Curved monitors are really worth it. They look cool, but not sure they improve viewing. I looked at one for my HTPC, but ended up just getting a flat screen 10" bigger for same price.

Very solid build overall but will make a few points:

RAM is excessive unless you need it for hardware intensive tasks which need more than 30GB+ (or maybe if you have a RAM disk configuration for certain performance benchmarks, etc). No problems with having the RAM as it is though.

You could settle for a lesser CPU cooler (good air CPU cooler) and still be able to overclock the CPU (not necessary with the stock specs of the CPU though and would probably have better thermal benefits from de-lidding and using better TIMs than Intel's stock paste). Would only recommend your particular AIO for a HEDT CPU that is being overclocked, but see no immediate need to change to a different cooler though.

Only real potential part I could see an upgrade for would be the 5TB storage drive given there are cheaper variety 6TB and 8TB hard drives now and might recommend getting either of those drive if you have no other back of the data on your 5TB drive which isn't backed up to any other drive you have (and if the data is important or valuable which is using most of the 5TB capacity).

Lastly it is very easy to be picky with monitors and can only say at that price tag you will have to stick with your current monitor for a while unless it has a sudden failure.
