As I was trouble shooting the driver instability issue on my FuryX for the recent Crimson driver. Fall Creator update was installed in the background. So as a curious cat, I installed AMD's latest Fall Creator Update Crimson driver package.

Oh boy, there is a new option!

Sooo, I am assuming AMD driver now officially encourages crypto mining? If I have any way to test it I would LOVE to bench between those two modes and see what kind of difference there might be.

Nice find! Is power efficiency an old option or a new one also and how does it work for Fury X?

power effiency is old. It used to keep GPU speed at 300MHz when you browse web pages. Like a very aggressive throttle control, speed down whenever the load is down. Used to work fine. However recent Crimson drivers have broken it. Causing BSOD whenever I turn it on and benchmark/gaming

Compute is not necessarily just mining. Heck, there are games that are compute heavy.

Maxwell actually has a similar setting in NVIDIA drivers. IIRC, it just boosts compute performance by disabling sparse textures and such.

Tested superposition multiple times. Compute mode has consistently higher fps: min avg and max than graphic mode.

That choice between compute and graphic mode might be only for Fury, Polaris and Vega. We need more to check that out and AMD to come out and explain what's that exactly for.

Did a bit more testing. Using Compute mode gives average 1.1% of performance increase. You would think Graphic mode would give better gaming performance.

Each test was run for 5 times and average was taken. So this is definitely not some sort of random artifact.

Now try the blockchain driver and see how it compares.

Did a quick FSE, vastly slower than the Fall Creator driver in either Graphic or Compute mode. Somehow my FireStrike Extreme graphic score is over 8000 now. It used to sit around 7700~7800 with any driver prior to the Fall Creator driver.
