Intel AMT Security Issue Lets Attackers Bypass Login Credentials

You know, the irony? I'm one of the biggest critic of Intel Management Engine in this whole forum, and I'm here, telling people exactly that:

Nothing to see here: Please disperse.

That should tell you something. If this is a security flaw, so is every consumer router ever for having a default password of "password" or "admin."

Give up. This is a witch hunt, the only thing these fanboys are interested in is burning a witch, not facts. It also doesn't help that they have zero understanding of computer security, and no desire to educate themselves. tl;dr they're Donald trump supporters.

It;s weird how Intel success to hypnotize educated people on communities who should know what happen when Silicon bug exists to run half month on internet like chickens without head and search for some suspicious performance decrease patches who made thousands problems while normal people can't believe what happen and what people tolerate.
Communities should be clear.... WE DON'T CARE.
Security patches, -WE DON'T CARE, RECALL, REFUND.
BIOS Fixes, updates - WE DON'T CARE FULL REFUND!
Say to own mom and dad that Silicon Bug could be patched like that.

We obviously see and reaction of government force me to think like that Intel get warranties who knows when to continue to produce processors and they will not pay for anything when secret show up. In mean time, they were in serious advantages but probably no one didn't plan that secret will stay hidden so long and that no one will discover that computers worldwide are opened books to anyone who know for bug.

Task of Intel is survive first month two without paying or facing with charges.
Than easy they will start to advertise new silicon and people will discover true reality when new processors show up.
1. Real Performance Decrease
2. Huge Impact in Future Softwares and Drivers
3. Patches not work properly

From first day I sad I will update nothing, I was shocked how people who know with hardware and software chase arround and upload updates happy like they found new driver and hurry to upload before everyone...
In moment when new Silicon production start whole company and everyone arround will turn 360 degree because from that moment flaws in these generations will make profit to Intel, and more customers are aware of reality they will payed more. Now Intel need to hide to avoid charges and refund to customers.

I give you warranty, with bugs only in Coffee Lake, maybe even Kaby Lake Intel would recall them INSTANTLY.
Only size of profit and because they would lost everything what they profit from Coffee Lake and Skylake-X and probably Kaby Lake force them to feed products ready for garbage with some patches and slow downs. They could decrease impact, they can;t made from Silicon flaw to work like without flaw not even to be secure as secure silicon. NO WAY. That's story for kids. Patches will go down faster than you upload them from Hackers if they smell something inside. But crippled performance will stayed. i didn't recover benchmark results even after uninstalled patches. Only half, it's visible improvement and surfing is better but only half performance are recovered. Only Win Update.

and thus the computer isn't affected.
Exactly. Was just wondering as to the method used to discover that status.

You had a really excellent point going there...
tl;dr they're Donald trump supporters.
.. up until that when you made yourself look like a complete yutz. This is tech forum, keep politics out of it. Such assumptions are really very misguided and are not welcome.

I would guess the members here are about 30% American, and being in tech generally gives you a well balanced view of the world as you see first hand how manipulative each side is, politics, business rivalries, software, hardware... all have great examples.

So throwing around "Trump" like some sort of big guns that silences anyone who disagrees is like being the first baby to cry in hopes of getting a lollipop.

It's not really a security issue since you simply have to change the default admin password.

I guess if they put 2 authentication (AMT + BIOS), the AMT wouldn't be able to change settings in the BIOS. The best option would be that when you change BIOS password, the same password is applied to AMT.

But for now, when you change the BIOS password on a vanilla PC, have the reflex to change the AMT password too.

Cheers

Trump supporter butthurt is always so entertaining.

Can I just get full refunds on my Q6600, 2500k, 6600k and 8600k for the inconvenience of this news? (and btw, why didnt intel just keep the x500k name for i5 CPU's? whyd they have to confuse it and go x600k?)

I would be great.
And refunds for the motherboards as I would have never bought them If I didn't buy the CPU :-) I have receipts.

Just waiting till peoples Sandy bridge loses 25% grunt over night.....
