Good night, everyone!
A friend of mine bought a GTX 1050 graphics card to replace his old AMD HD6870. He only replaced the AMD card, because it started to display some green vertical lines on screen and throwing Bluescreens at him.
Today, we plugged in his computer, without any of the cards (using the iGPU) and it booted to the desktop just fine. When we plugged the 1050, it had no display at all, even with some settings tweaked on the BIOS. When we plugged the HD6870, the same happened. Since he only has a VGA monitor, he has to use a VGA to DVI adapter for both cards. When we tested the 1050 with a VGA to HDMI adapter it worked flawlessly. We then tested the card with another VGA to HDMI adapter and there was no display again. What could be the problem here? All of the adapters are working and were tested.

His Computer Specs
Core 2 Quad Q6600
Intel Desktop Board (Don't Know The Model)
4GB DDR2 800
450W Seasonic PSU
It's an old machine and we both know the CPU and RAM are a serious bottleneck.

Thanks in advance,
Anselmo Pereira

There is no vga output in gtx 1050 and the dvi out is digital only, so no cheap dvi to vga adapter is supported, i had similar problem with newer motherboard that required to enable efi/uefi in bios, your mobo is ancient and there is no efi/uefi option. These cheap hdmi to vga adapters have problems, very fiew work as advertised. Buy or lease a used dvi input monitor with dvi cable and then you see if the efi-uefi will haunt you. Be sure to adjust monitor resolution to low settings when possible as cheap monitors can get out of range error and its hard to correct in win 10 safe mode unusable.

Thank you! We have fortunatly solved the problem and it was due to what you mentioned.

The output that provides an analog signal is DisplayPort.

HDMI does not

Cool, I did not know that DisplayPort was analog. Nice to know.

Displayport is full digital port, only 15pin vga and some pins in dvi socket are analogue, dont know where your knowledge comes from.

Okay I want you to look at my system specifications in my profile.
I am on a card that does not have a VGA port on it at all I'm using a DisplayPort to VGA adapter which is passive because my monitor is from 2001 and it's working on it, so DisplayPort does provide an analog signal.

PS look at my signature

Very funny, you can get also a hdmi to vga converter but this does not make hdmi a analogue port, the level of knowledge in this phorum is stunning.

I will just drop this here for the uninformed amongst us :) Now do not be upset if it ruins your uninformed postDAY
