I know Kaby Lake is 7th gen.. but this isn't a Kaby Lake.
I'm just going by what Ark lists them as, formerly Kaby Lake.
It only lists two Processors for Core-X.

Ah.. this is "formerly Skylake".. the first of the 8-core Core-X's. Strangely better than the Core-X Kaby Lakes, which are 6 cores.

Ignore anti x299's, get x299 it's the best platform available and HEDT refresh for x299 should be coming soon

Yes indeed the best socket with throttling CPU !!! I will never switch to X299, I prefer to switch to Threadripper, but I will never need all of those cores, but maybe I will switch to it because the 64 PCIe Lanes :) Intel is just 44 PCIe lanes, what a shame !!! And Intel ask to pay again to get RAID on X299 !!!

Well, I can only guess there are so many PC users who SLi/Crossfire more than 2 cards that it would be a real deal breaker...……… or not.

The HEDT are mostly for Workstation, more PCI Lane is also more NVME storage on board, the PCIe slot are not only for display cards and can be also use for NVMe PCI Adapter, this is the reason why I am actually on X99, more about storage so no SATA disabled when using more than one NVME storage on board and no limit bandwith on PCIe Slots like on Mainstream motherboard ;)

I get that, but lots of enthusiasts use the boards too and whichever way you care to look at it, multi card set ups are a considerable minority leaving therefore plenty of lanes for most people's uses...… I agree not everyone's but one size rarely fits all.

I guess I'd consider myself an enthusiast.. but I could have easily gone with something else. I just went HEDT because it's easier to find U.2 slots on them. Threadripper boards have them too, but there's no "low end" Threadripper like the Core-X.

You still have the 1900X, but I think the 1920x our the incoming 2920x will be the best choice and better value as the need of more core is still yet to prove. I am doing video editing but most of the task are handled by the GPU (I have a GTX1070) such as Encoding (HEVC 10 Bit or H264 4:2:2 / 4:4:4) and Rendering during the export on Premiere Pro, I barely use all the strength of the 10 cores of the i7 6950x or it's just for a short time, when the GPU need to render some filters, the CPU assist it sometimes but rarely at its full power except when there's After Effects sequences on the timeline. I think 8 cores or 12 cores is the sweet spot for a Video Editing Workstation. Just saying that Encoding and rendering at the same time with the GPU with my 6950X, I export 2 to 20 times faster than the realtime of the projects depending of the amount of filters, grading , transitions and After Effects sequences. Far faster than the i7 8700K using the IGP limited to standard H264.

Intel i7 6700k
Intel i7 5820K

I'm waiting to see what improvements Zen 2 7nm brings, then I will decide if my next build will be Intel or AMD.

I guess I'm a minority then. I like to use two GPUs and have at least one gumstick M.2 drive to work with, and one or two storage HDDs too.
X299 and Z370 platforms seem to be good enough for my uses. (mostly gaming and some video encoding)
The next iteration of AMDs CPUs is very interesting to me. I'll probably get one of them to try out. (maybe more depending on how they perform)

Well you are :)

Not long then I'll grab another 1080 ti ftw3 to join that minority : ) once I've got the funds saved that is.
Sounds good, moving towards that 5.1% minority, to be honest with the costs of new architecture currently I can see that 5% steadily increasing over the next couple of years.

I just made a deal for a pair of ASUS Strix 1080Ti OC cards.
So I guess I'm hooked.
