meh, happens on any forum my friend.

Its the more nazi ones that you will find have more problems.
I find the moderators lenient and friendly, but fair.

Just for the record in case anyone misunderstood. This doesn't mean all links are against the rules. If you had some specific post/thread you wanted to link to that would be okay. Or if you had system specs, pictures, or "CLEAN" jokes you wanted to put in your sig. It's just blatant advertising of games, websites, and other items we want to keep an eye on. It's not really fair to advertise other websites for free don't you think? After all W1zzard doesn't make much money off of TPU as it is. He needs the advertising money he generates to keep the website, ATITool, Systool, etc. free. It's just his hobby, not his job.

Basically your saying keep within the house(TPU's web site) and those are okay, but no links outside of the house(Tpu's web site). Is this correct?

I agree with the advertisement part-but linking to another forum is not advertising in my opinion-I mean the other board isn't taking away from this board-the other board is just trying to seek members. I could see it if this board had a paid subscription and it was renewed on a monthly or yearly basis but its free... Come on-linking to another board does not hurt this board by no means. Again just my opinion.

Not necessarily. Links to websites which are in direct competition with us, or links to websites that stand to make a profit off links being in signatures. These things are in poor taste.

e.g. Links to other forums, links to products.

If you have a link to some freeware program you like, that would most likely be acceptable. If you want to link to some stat page; some people have battlefield 2 stats for example. If you find an exceptional deal on a product we have a "hot deals" section of the forum for use.

This is a business/hobby the only person who should profit off its running is W1zzard. He then uses that money to support the site. He makes very little of the site as it is, just enough to support it. You guys don't want W1zz to have to dig deep into his pockets do you?

My question is, how does a link to another forum, affect W1z's profits? I mean, a person has to already be in the forum to see it, so the traffic is already here.

Just linking to another board is not taking money out of w1zzard's pockets-It would be if this board had a paid membership and it only kept members on a renewal type basis-but it doesn't-this board has free membership and they will always be a member of this board-you can be a member of other boards-some boards offer more or less than others! So why not allow links to other forum boards? they are also a free membership board probably-so if u ban 1 type of links outside the house(TPU's web site) then ban all links outside the house and be done with it. Your a moderator-is this the only forum u ever belonged to? do u ever visit other websites? I'm sure u do, so you know what I am saying is true! But your a moderator so u can't admit that cause u may lose that title. But this is all in my opinion.

what profit does this site take by offering a free membership? ahhh $0.00. and linking to another forum is not stealing your memberships its just a way to show you other boards are out there! Its your choice to belong to a board not the site owners. So if this site gets paid for all bandwidth traffic it generates then I can see your point-but I have been in networking a long time to know that if someone is paying w1zzard big money to keep the bandwidth traffic then I want to meet him cause I could generate the bandwidth thats for sure, but just as Wile E stated, why not have it in the sigs? the traffic is already here in order to see it!

Its because we're evil fascist authoritarians, who enjoy crushing the civil liberties of others... We also fly into windows at night and steal the hopes and dreams of children.

I'm sorry this rule upsets you so much, but that is the way it is going to be. This is the way W1zzard wishes it to be, maybe it doesn't effect profit, maybe it does. Maybe he just doesn't like advertising for other forums for purely esoteric reasons. Maybe he finds it insulting?

We're not some enigmatic version of "The Man" out to get everyone.

It's just human nature. I respect that it's the policy, so I removed the ashentech link from my sig, but I just don't buy the reason given. Either way, I like it here, I plan to comply, and I plan on staying here to help when I can, for a long time to come. It has it's quirks, but there is no arguing that this is hands down one of the best tech communities on the net.

That is my new answer to why people can't advertise in sigs. Whenever anyone asks, I'm going to say it is because we're quirky.

Allow me to say that links to other forums arent in bad taste, so long as they link to a thread relevant to something in your sig. Say for example someone found a good article on overclocking and wanted to share it, id consider that acceptable.

Blatantly linking to another site just for traffic reasons is the real issue.
Reminds me of myspace whores "omgz! comment my picz plzzzz!!!"

The last time I checked, I ensured that anyone could link to anything in their signatures. "Infractions" for links? That's ridiculous to me.

Edit: Oh, I remember exceptions to that rule. I make sure that all vulgarity is kept out. Anyone remember when AshenSugar linked people to "hai2u" in his sig? That was about the only time I can imagine banning someone over a sig.

I agree with you, but when I was reading other posts I see that 3991vhtes said he received an infraction for a link outside the house(TPU's web site). Just thought I would mention it.
