Mem question

I just bought some crucial tracers 2x1gb ddr2 800 rated at 4-4-4-12 2.2v. Now my question is, do you think I would be able to run it at 667 3-3-3-9 2.2v or should I just leave it at 800 4-4-4-12 2.2v?

what is your objective?

seeing as you have a C2D (and a nice one too), leave it at 800Mhz, the system will benefit from that more.

Those sticks can go well higher than 800.
Try to bump them up to 1066 (they can go higher than that as well).

Intel CPUs benefit from a higher freq. (like 1066 over 800) while AMD CPUs benefit with tighter timings (like 3-3-3-9 over 4-4-4-12)

intel cpu's dont see much performance difference with tighter timings... the faster you run your memory does help...

i know i have posted this in a few diff threads but my ram can do over 1100 mhz 4-3-4-8 @ 2.3 v T2 but i get way better performace all round running my ram at 848 mhz (424 *8 = 3.4ghz) 4-4-4-8 1.9v T1.. it all depends what you want to achieve.. i was after memory bandwidth (5000 m/sec in memtest 1.7 and a lil over 11 gig a second in everest with a latentcy of 42 ns (read and right are both about 7.7 gig a sec)

So they benefit more from 1066 than 800 or 667?

I was planning on running the c2d at stock for awhile and thought the ram would run better at 333 since thats what the cpu will be running at. Guess I need to read more on ram. Anyways thanks for the help.

normaly the higher the fbs the better , im just running tight timings and also at T1 wich is the big advantage, so either a bit of time on google or spend a few hrs and play around with your oc and just find what works best for you

As already mentioned, C2D cpus benefit from higher memory speeds (in terms of Mhz) than current AMD cpus.

You could run the memory at 667Mhz (which would be enough to match the FSB of the C2D). But since your memory is rated at 800Mhz, you can run it at that. I havn't heard performance decrease when using 800Mhz instead of 667Mhz.

mine is rated at 1000 mhz and can run over 1100 mhz 4-4-4-8 but i get better performance at 848 mhz, but as i have said im running T1 not T2, but what all this boils down to is try and get the highest fsb possibe at either T1 or T2 timings, but i have found T1 to give better resualts at a lower fsb the T2 at higher fsb, but watever the case go for a high fsb...

I run my PC2-6400 Tracer 2gb kit @ 1140mhz 2.3v 5-5-5-10 24/7, and i benchmark @ 1240mhz. They have loads of overclocking headroom

You probably will be able to run them on those timmings, but try it wont hurt you.

My team group is running 3 3 3 9 at 790mhz
