Just happy throw I soon can get 16 cores ryzen 9 3950X for 749 USD and don't have to pay Intel twice as much for an i9 9960X.

Most definitely is. If you look at Intels top end CPU, it's over $10000 for under half the core count and possibly I think more wattage etc...

We actually use two servers housing Xeon Platinum 8270 (26/52 C/Th) Server at work for hosting our Terminal servers (supports around 90 users). the two chips cost more than the EPYC and I can guarantee we'd only need one Server for what we use it for (although two is better for redundancy)

Get a quote in for replacing the two, say it'll be cheaper long term as well and then say for my troubles, please grab me one as well.... I'd say it's only the fair way to be honest

We've not gone that far up the Xeon tree at work, I think our best is 12C Gold CPUs (5118's possibly??) but still.... They are soooooo over priced... That said a very good friend of mine has found me a few 12C 24T Xeon's for not masses but even then, they won't be very high up with the IPC etc.... Still, will be fun to play with

No one is replacing servers before the end of amortization period or breakdown. That's not cheaper in any way.

As for the CPUs: the 64-core is clearly stealing the show for large computing clusters and so on. AMD will have an advantage in this - not very big but highly prestigious - niche.

But I feel like this launch is a bit of a let down in the lower part of the lineup.
Where are the high-frequency models? There's not a single 8-16 core model that gets even close to Ryzen 3000 speeds. That's just bizarre. :-/

That price alone gives headaches and nausea all together but when you compare it to the intel rival, its a cheap offer.
In order to match performance Intel has to throw 2x Xeon Platinum 8280 (2x 10000$). Not to mention the power requirements... 225W vs 2x205W.
And more likely is a 225W vs 450+W because of the different standards in measurement by AMD and Intel.

That Zen2 arch will destroy Intel in server, data center and cloud computing for years. With much better security, efficiency, scalability, IO capacity, cache size, performance/W and much better pricing, ONLY stupid people will buy Intel from now on. AMD will have much more than 25% of this marketshare in sales in early 2021. And Zen3 will make that even better for them. Even haters cannot argue with Rome chip conquering the market.

Depending on what you use them for, yes it can be cheaper - even if you just throw them out.

Just for comparison, a dual Intel Xeon E5-2650 V4 is around 105 here. Even in the midrange of a 3-year-old server stack, we are seeing a 6:1 or more socket consolidation ratio from AMD. If you are using VMware per-socket licensing, this is at the point where you can see day 1 cost savings by removing a 3-year old server cluster and continue to save more over time. We have almost never seen that in the industry.

Why would temperatures be too high? Are Ryzen 3700X temperatures too high?

With brief 7nm advantage AMD clearly wins in number of cores per socket.
The cores itself however are way slower than I hoped for.

What this means is that when someone is looking for an ~8, 16 or 24-core server, Intel is still competitive - despite an obvious technological and node handicap.

I really hoped AMD will show a more flexible lineup this year to put more pressure on Intel. ;-)

So why aren't there any faster 8- or 12-core EPYCs? What is stopping them?
