Hey guys got a question. As some know I had to sell my previous rig for emergency reasons but now I’m building another to get back in the game . My question is would 500-650W Gold or higher rated PSU be enough for my new rig.

Specs I’m looking at:
Ryzen 9 3900X
ASRock B350 Pro4
G.Skill TridentZ 32GB(2x16GB) 3600MHz
Some tower cooler
EVGA RTX 2070 Super
Sandisk M.2 512GB SSD
Segate Contsellas 3TB
6x Scythe GT fans

It all depends on the brand. But 600w yes
If you look at the recomended PSU for a GTX 2070 its says 550w

Anything above and including 550W should be fine.
With 750W you could throw in a second GPU without worrying about anything.

That B350 mobo on the other hand, don't!
Do yourself a favour and get something X470 or X570.

A quality 400 watt or above PSU is fine for you if you are on a strict budget.

500W (or higher) 80+ gold rated psu is what fits this kind of pc perfectly.

I will also discourage you from pairing 3900x with b350 board, any b350 board. Do yourself a favor and do not go with anything lower than b450, preferably use decent x470 motherboard. Especially keep in mind quality of vrm and bios capabilities. Yes, b350 boards support 3900x but they limit this cpu in some ways, even if you are not going to overclock that cpu.

Take a look at this video to help yourself to choose proper motherboard:

For 3900X I advice you to buy at least a B450 MB or better x470 or x570.
For PSU min 650 W to be ready for future videocard upgrades.
Best 750 W gold or higher.
Good Luck and enjoy it.

Just buy 1600w psu and don’t worry about power supply anymore.

His proposed rig won't use more than 300 - 350 watts max in gaming. And that's being generous. SLI/Crossfire is pretty much dead so no need to consider that for future upgrades.

I’d never run dual GPUs again

and the board is fine

I’m not on a strict budget just thinking of another 850W PSU is necessary

I´d agree that 550W and up will suit your build. If you want to stay on the budget side the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold series is pretty nice and still fully modular. Alternativly a bit cheaper is the Focus series without the (+) and only semi-modular.

If the budget is not strict, you can go with maybe 700W to give the PSU some headroom. It will thank you with additional lifespan and maybe less fan noise, but it is definitly not necessary!

The EVGA SuperNOVA and Corsair RMi Series are both very nice in terms of quality. Both fully modular as well, long warranty and zero RPM fan-mode when your system is idle. The Corsair RMi adds some software nonsense to control the fan-curve and read power figures directly from the PSU if you are into that kind of thing.

Hey that is my motto :p (But maybe consider the SuperFlower Leadex 80 Plus 8Pack edition instead. 2000W > 1600W)

I would definitely go with a a quality 650w to give you some headroom for a future gpu upgrade I've seen my 3900X hit up to 125 watts during gaming in BFV. My total system draw with a Titan XP can hit close to 500 W at some points although usually only briefly typical gaming load is 400-425w.

Really keep an eye on your VRM temps and make sure you have good airflow over them your board only has a 3 phase vrm with doubled components for the Vcore and a pretty dinky heatsink when it comes to surface area.

Get what you want, just read the reviews. Nothing wrong with running a 850w. Just know your only using about 450w sense the 2070 Super uses 220w at full power

That’s the exact model line I’ve looked at the RM series as they are fully modular and have decent reviews

Corsair RM650x 2018 should suit your needs plentifully. it performed great in reviews and houses a top notch fan

I can really recommend them from personal experience. I have an RM850i (the i models have a USB connector to give some readouts in OS) on my OC-bench since early 2018 and I had the same PSU in use on my first gen Ryzen build with an 1800x and a 1080ti. It still serves me well, I had no issues and from what I can tell it delivers very stable power.

Judging by the confident warranty from Corsair this is a PSU you can carry over to your next build and still trust it.

Oh I trust that RM

my last 2 PSUs were the RM850 and RM750

600 Watt power supply will be enough. I'd recommend at least 80+ gold certificated one

Seasonic 650w Gold 10 year warranty
The Corsair RM550 gold is the same price. 10 year warranty

Either of these would be decent choices, however I like me a bit of head room, but not for efficiency reasons.

A quality 550W PSU will be plenty including overclocking, efficiency, and any other headroom (outside of dual gpus) people want to throw in for giggles.

That said, your motherboard is scraping the bottom of the barrel... it may be fine at stock with some airflow, I doubt you can really push the 3900x in it, however.
(But go ahead... say the board is fine again...lol).

Well, if you're not on a budget then buy the 850 watt PSU. I think you've already made up your mind to do so anyway. It's twice as much as you need but that's alright. I go overboard on PSUs too.

Higher watts PSU will give your PC parts more juice so they will perform better. It doesn't work as well as RGB fans and parts with the name "extreme, killer, or gamer" in them but comes close. Now if you have 1000w extreme PSU with RGB your GTX 1050ti can use up 400w by itself and outperform a GTX 2080.

What a load of BS

While 80°C is fine from a within spec standpoint, you more than likely need a 2000 series CPU to upgrade the BIOS (1000 may break during the update bricking the board).

What? It's true I saw it on a YouTube channel for some kid named "pcgamepwndkiller". He also has a video of him doing 100 fps on ultra settings In red dead redemption 2 on his Intel i5-8300h / UHD 630 igpu laptop so you know he knows his stuff.

This thread is silly. The OP doesn't even care what PSU is recommended by anyone. He's already made up his mind about the PSU.

Chalk this one up to another PSU this or that debate.
