i started my pc this morning and i got the ntldr not found message, i thought no problem i will just do a repair using the win xpcd, did the fixboot fixmbr and recopied the missing file didnt work then i tried reinstalling windows, it would copy files over then say can not find operating system, then i noticed my 99gb partition was gone!i reinstalled again but now when my pc go's to the abit logo on post it just keeps restarting over and over and ive reset the cmos settings could it be my hdd ? i feel like selling this pc ive only had it a few weeks:banghead:

bumpidy bump

i kno its just i need bf2 and messenger

You left five minutes for a bump?

Only thing I can recommend is doing a complete format with your hard drive manufacturer's software and then trying to install again. Check everything is plugged in properly too, and run memtest.

i tried to format but it just restarts afterwards and doesnt go any further that the post screen

cant be bothered to fix it, i hate the performance im gona sell it on ebay

read jimmy's post closer:

format with your hard drive manufacturer's software !!

If its a Western Digital, try Data Lifeguard. You make a boot CD or floppy. Boot into a 'dos like' enviornment where you can format, clone, etc.

Also, have you tried that software that writes all 1's to the drive and then formats? Can't remember what its called.

Also, go into power management and get rid of the 'boot logo' or similar. That way you can actually see some information during boot

i tried the manufactures software from floppy and that seemed to work okay but then i put windows on it wouldnt do it,it restarts when detecting bootable usb drives or sumthin

Have you tried updating your BIOS? Unplugging all the hardware you don't need, leaving one stick of RAM and then booting? (have you run memtest like I said earlier?)

Disconnect USB devices?
disable boot from LAN and USB?
try a motherboard BIOS update?

Set the boot order to CD, A:, HDD?

My bro's skt 939 board (asus) wouldn't boot when he first got his pc. Ended up that the company that built it used a USB key to load the OS and didn't change the boot from usb setting back...his would just freeze though (no 'reboot')

i havent got any thing plugged in and i have set it boot from cd first then floppy then hdd, i turned off boot from lan

Have you checked the RAM!!!! That can cause all sorts of problems if it's faulty (including causing file corruption which would have caused this in the first place).

Id go with jimmy, RAM is the pickiest/hardest thing when it comes to getting your PC to run rock solid.

yep tried it in another machine its ok, it shows a number in the bottom right hand corner just before it restarts i cant read it because it restarts so quick i kno what its for but it just cant read it because it go's so fast and pause break dont work

So you don't even get to boot your OS before it restarts? Try loosening your timings, or setting them to what the default should be.

nope dont get past the post screen, displays a list of devices then restarts over, everythig is at defaults

If you time it just right you may be able to press the "Pause" button on your keyboard just before it reboots and read the number. Not that that will be a lot of use here, but maybe on the manufacturer's forums.

y would this happen in the first place? i dont overclock anything but my x1600 and thats only for gaming use than i drop it down for surfing the web.

im gonna go to bed but before i do i will swap my ide cables over and try my other drives again

The IDE cables can be it as I couldn't get these 2 hardrives on a new IDE cable to boot up then me and solaris were like "well this sounds dumb but lets change out the cables..." Then bam.

i started the pc up this morning and found my new maxtor 320gb hdd is the fault as it was clicking loudly, going to rma it.

i sent the hard drive to seagate to get a replacement, im now using a 20gb and my original 80gb, real pissed off just realised i gave my backup drive to my brother to use as his main drive lol.

But your system boots right?
