I don't doubt that you'll be able to do 4000-4400 with a good B-die kit, but to come right out of the gates with a 4500 XMP is a little...living on the edge, I suppose.

Any 3600/16-16-16 kit and tighter should be reasonable quality B-die and be ready to go for frequencies to 4000 and beyond. As always, no guarantees.

From what I hear, good Rev.E overclocks like a champ, but being 16-18-18 or 16-19-19 also introduces other ICs like Hynix that aren't quite such a champ on raw freq overclocking for Intel.

Honestly, if you're not interested in memory overclocking, stick to 3600/16.

Yeah all this makes me want to try the 4500/18 actually. I'll be trying to get all cores at 5.1+ anyway so playing with the ram should be easy enough. If 4500/18 doesn't work maybe the same kit at 4000/16-17 does, if not, 3600/16 almost for sure would I would think...

Wow that's a way better price for a 2TB m.2, I have been cheaping out on storage but the load times of nvme have been kind of addicting, need some middle ground!

Sounds dumb but I like Crucial because Micron is USA... but Samsung because it's faster :laugh:

There really isnt much difference in load times of a SATA SSD vs nvme SSD in games.

I went from a Samsung 970 2tb to a intel 660p 2tb, I dont see the difference between the two. I got rid of the Samsung because I wanted the money instead. I have way too many computer parts.

Personally i think either 10900 or 10700 will be perfectly fine, but i be leaning more to the 10 cores but that would depend how often you upgrade too.

I'd watch out with some motherboard manufactures too as it sounds like some have really bad auto settings.

I usually upgrade laptops about every 1 to 1.5 years. Its a tax write off for me, sell the "old" one and buy new one or used one if better than last one.

Good looking build you got there.
Reading that you waited and waited to do an upgrade/platform change to newer tech , are not wrong to go for Intel's 10th gen i7k. I went for the Ryzen 3 3300x , Different usage case and platform familiarization.
You can't go wrong getting them 4500mhz ram , speaking as an avid tinker/tweaker, assuming bank is not broken ,which you mentioned , it is nice and fun toying around with ram capable "to boot" with.

4500mhz memory will downclock with tighter timings than 3600 memory out of the box if you can't stably run 4500.
10700k being lower bin than 10900k is a good point, and at a price differential of less than £100 I really wouldn't bother going with the 10700k.
Intel has per core OC and per core hyperthreading now - so if you're concerned about heat of 2 extra cores, just disable HT on your two best and enjoy your 18 thread CPU, or get good cooling and enjoy 2 cores clocked 200mhz higher than the rest of your system.

Plus some memory kits from the same manufacturer are using the same memory just overvolted to run higher, take Patriot for example their 4000mhz kits were using the same memory as their 4400mhz kit, both kits were identical timings but where as the 4000mhz kit was 1.35v, the 4400 was 1.45v, sometimes it pays to go 4000mhz and then see what they can do in terms of timings at 3600 and 4400, test, find your sweet spot and your good to go, it can save money too.

I am glad people did not act this way when i asked just a few weeks ago ( thanks again to those who shed some light on my upgrade )

I say screw it if you have the money and just get the 10900k and have done with it. Just go with what you believe you be happy with and at least then you only have your self to blame

My question is though did MS \ Intel get all those security flaws fixed ?, if not maybe some performance loss could be ahead their too. Just a though when Intel push updates though windows updates and decide that your bios needs updating.

And sure in a year or so a bunch could popup for AMD too.

But as seen as you have a 7700 waiting might be a better option and just buyiing a better video card, although again might be better waiting their too.

It's relevant in so much that the OP is looking at Getting a Gigabyte board and some fast RAM, but everyone's dissing the OP and saying it won't work. This is apparently not even all that extreme.

Gigabyte's BIOS is known to be sub-par, but that doesn't mean anybody with a LN2 pot can't pull inane frequencies on it. I own couple Gigabyte boards and they have the worst BIOS out of my MSI and Asus ones. I've suggested him Asus and they do indeed have multiple boards waiting to come out, some of which look good physically. You can look at the old TPU news of this if you want. I have no doubts that an Asus board should be superior for an Intel platform.

Oh wow... So you've tested all the different Z490 boards now, have you?
Also, when was the last time you used a Gigabyte board?
I agree, in so far as my Z270 board in my NAS has a terrible UEFI, but my X570 board has a really good UEFI.
And no way, MSI has a much worse UEFI than Gigabyte any day of the week, so I don't agree with you there at all.

And this is not about superior, this is showing what their regular boards can do. Keep in mind that this is Gigabyte's $200 board, not a $500++ extreme board.

And look, no LN2!!!

Maybe at least have some of the facts before making a judgement?

At the $300 price point on a hardware level the ultra looks pretty meh compared to the Strix E and especially the Unify which has the best vrm on Z490 under 300 by a mile.

The Master looks decent but is quite a bit more expensive.

The 220 Z490 aorus elite has the same vrm.....

Also I'm not sure why gigabyte would put a much better Vrm on a B550 board vs a Z490 one it makes my head spin :kookoo:

Fact, the setup is watercooled and looks to be using expensive Klevv RAM.

My Gigabyte boards are B450 and relevant, you're assuming that I have older boards for some reason. I don't care what he achieved, it could have been done on any other as capable board. These kind of OC'ing runs are pointless and do not mean anything to the end user.
