I have a Hiper 580w psu (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817128002) currently, and after dropping in my opteron 170 vs my old 3200+ I have had some really weird issues.

Board will not cold boot, you have to flick the psu switch off until the current drops, then back on.
2.8-3.0 ghz I will get random power off's, no reboot just as if you held the power button for 5 sec.
PSU runs rather hot under full load and the fans never seem to spin all the way up.
I have read posts on DYI-Street about issues with this psu and dual core based lanparty nf4 boards.

I think I may be needing a new psu. Anyone want to buy an almost new psu? I purchased it from newegg on 1/14/07 and have used it since. I think I'm just over loading it with my heavily overclocked rig. I still have all the wires and adapters...Will trade for a stronger psu + cash.

How many amps are on the 12v rail(s)? If it's any decent amount, it shouldn't be overloaded on that rig. My old 550W with 30A on 12v, ran my X1800XT at 740/875,and my X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz on 1.4v with absolutely no problems, even after hours of continuous heavy load. Plus 3HDs, water pump, 1 rom, and 8 120mm fans.

Quick question, are you using Core Temp when it happens?

This has to be using more than the alotted power.

Yeah, Core Temp causes random shut offs for me. So did Orthos, if I had temp monitoring on. I've spoken to a few other people, and we all have 2 things in common. 1.) A Dual core AMD, and 2.) a DFI board.

But more to your problem, aven if it isn't a software issue, it does seem your psu is a little on the weak side. Both rails add up to 28A, but it can likely only do 24-25ish combined. (Due to losses).

How much do you have to spend on a psu?

I have an Asus board and CoreTemp gives me problems too. Still got the dual core AMD going on though.
