I have noticed in various forum discussions that there are many who are not yet as open-minded about windows 11 as some others are.
Many reasons were given, for example that it is simply undeveloped...
Microsoft has a way in Group Policy since Windows 10 1803 to prevent a feature update to a new version. As long as this version officially receives updates. This can also be set for Windows 11.
It's still a while away and Windows 11 won't be available as a "forced update" (if only because of the hardware requirements). But if you still want to use Windows 10 21H1, you can set it like this. With the upcoming Windows 10 21H2 (19044), the setting will probably be changed somewhat. More about this below.
Keep Windows 10 21H1 for now
If you are running Windows 10 21H1 and don't want an update to Windows 10 21H2 and therefore don't want Windows 11, you can proceed like this.
Windows 10 Pro and higher:
Windows key + R __gpedit.msc__
Local Computer Policies -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Windows Update for Business
Double click on the target version of the feature update
Set to Enabled and enter the 21H1.
With Apply and OK, such a function update will not take place until 21.12.2022. Only after that, if no updates are provided by Microsoft, the Windows 10 21H2 or already higher will then be offered.
in the registry it must look like this:
Windows Registry Editor version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
"TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="21H1"
For the Windows 10 21H2 (19044)
Since there will be two versions of the 21H2, Windows 10 and Windows 11, a change has been made in Windows 11 and presumably later also in Windows 10 21H2.
In the group policies
Policies for Local Computer -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Manage updates offered from Windows Update
Here then select target version of the function update double click on it
Here you have to enter either Windows 10 or Windows 11 and then 21H2.
In the registry it looks like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
"ProductVersion"="Windows 10"
"TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="21H2"
So the possibility to continue using Windows 10 is given. Only if you make these settings, do not forget it. Otherwise, you will not be offered a function update.
