Or perhaps my world view is too cynical. I believe that the world will never see honest and intelligent leaders in times of democracy because 1. you have to be corrupt by nature to even want to become a leader and 2. the majority of the world has always been and will always be idiots, who only vote for people they can identify with (aka other idiots).

It's just a generic chip with performance simular to a 1080. Big deal. What tech company's should be more worried about is the real innovation china is doing to build their own chips. Because that is the goal here. This is just the start. The new VIA CPU as well is a simular move; to have IP to create their own CPU's pretty much.
