so long story short i replaced the motherboard in my asus rog laptop with a slightly better model one
the original came with a gtx 765m
the new board originally was packaged with a gtx 880m
the gpu detects in windows seems to be working but im unable to install drivers refuses any and all ways a try to install them
someone mentioned about a bios issue that the gpu bios or motherboard bios would have to be altered to make things work properly
how or what do i need to do to accomplish making the 765 work properly on the newer board
any help would be greatly apreciated

Need laptop models first, also gpu-z screenshots.

Have you reinstalled windows since you did mobo swap???

reinstalled windows didnt help just finished installing pop os original model was asus G750JW new board is G750JZ
motherboard was replaced due to usb ports failing and sata ports failing

and with this laptop being a 4th gen i7 i cant justify spending 250+ tax and shipping on a used 4gb 880m for it when i purchased the board for under $60

Ok so you don't have the 880m gpu then

no i sure dont it was purchased as a bare board
andd the gpu still worked fine on the old board it just had alot of other issues

Get a gpu-z screenshot of the 765m gpu installed. Unfortunately you cant get bios info from the old mobo, thats the problem with mobiles, Component blacklisting...

ok il get working on that now

Well tpu has a J759JW bios but that can brick the system.
Verified bios

Unverified bios

Claims 750JW which i presume is G750JW...

how would flashing the gpu fix the motherboard supporting it im confused

Well if there was a 765M bios that was for your G750JZ motherboard that would resolve the issue most likely, but alas there is not. It would make your G750JW GPU into a G750JZ GPU and clear up white listing.

You may need to view Asus forums, I wonder if the JZ board had a 765m as an option or a way to remove bios whitelidting on the current motherboard.

installing windows fresh on the laptop and will run gpuz so i can grab the screenshot for ya

Perhaps there could be a work around from another board maker...

Hey before you do, get a usb drive with the chipset drivers, and the gpu driver, dont turn on wifi or plug in an ethernet cord.

Install the chipset driver, restart, then the gpu driver if it will take, W10 can be clunky...

Do that with the mobile offline

drivers refuse to install and the only gpu that gpuz is detecting is the integrated intel gpu

Was it detected before?

I really hope that your laptop can handle the heat output of the 880m. That card back in the day ran so hot.
The 765m was a upper mid-range card, the 880m was the highest spec graphics card for that generation.

He doesnt have the 880m, he has the 765 which isnt even being detected on the G750JZ motherboard,.

If he had the G750JW motherboard and put the 765m back on it and it didnt detect then, it would be a gpu problem, but if it did detect then it would be a JZ motherboard problem...

If his laptop cant detect the 765m, he would have to replace them entire motherboard. That model doesnt come with MXM design GPUs.
Even if he can get a motherboard with the 880m, I'm wondering if it can handle the huge increase in heat output. I know that model laptop had really good cooling but the 880m was a hot gpu.

Odd i just looked up gtx 765m for Asus G750JW and it appears as a mxm design...

I'm sure its not, I had the g73jh best buy model, It had the ATI 5870 mobile. Both are a little different but overall same layout.

it is in fact an mxm model
also the only difference between the jw and jz are the slotable dc jack wich is interchangeable and the cpu everything else in the laptop and on the motherboard layout are the same
im half temped to transplant the bios chip from the jw over to the jz to see if it will work

Worth a shot.

didnt work laptop wouldnt post, put back on original bios chip fired right up
is there a way to alter the bios file to make it support the 765m
i know people used to do it for cpus back in the day not sure if the same would apply for gpus

Never knew that model would get a mxm gpu. I loved and hated that model.
