Gpu for pc on tv

Hey guys just a quick couple questions about using my pc on my tv. I just started getting into more graphic intense games ( I usually play like wow, RuneScape, fortnite, Apex, basic stuff like that) specifically resident evil 7, village, doom, Witcher 3. I hooked up my pc to my 4K curved Samsung that has game mode. I didn’t turn on game mode because I didn’t think about it at the time. I had to turn up some graphics to make it look better but after a little while I could tell it was getting laggy and stuttering and it was decently hot like 78 degrees which is way more than it goes with the games I usually play in just my pc monitor. I did clean my computer as it needed to be cleaned and got an extra fan to get me by for a couple days. Basically I’m just wondering what card I should get for my setup that can run games with decent graphics on my tv. 4K sounds cool but anything that would look decent I’m ok with I just want it to look pretty nice and no lag. Sorry this is kinda messy. My pc specs are i7 tenth gen (4.6ghz with turbo) h60 cooler with double fans one on each side of rad. 16 gb (2x 8gb) Corsair vengeance ddr4 3001 mhz. Rog strix z490-e motherboard. And finally, an msi GeForce gtx 1660. I have been looking to upgrade my graphics card and just wanted to ask on here some good thoughts because I see there’s quite a few different cards and someone said my cpu can handle up to a 3060 without bottleneck And maybe a little more. I don’t know much about all this as I used to play easier games and never had these problems. Again I just want to play games on my tv from pc and not have to sacrifice a decent picture while playing. Thanks in advanced and sorry again if it’s worded a little sloppy.

My first suggestion would be to use proper paragraphing when posting. Because nobody likes to read a wall of text - and i almost didn't bother.

The real question here should be "what is my budget?"

Because currently, wanting something and being able to afford it are two different things. Everything is just stupidly marked up and overpriced for what it is.

Knowing your location might also help some people to find you a good deal or make more suggestions rather than giving you offers from Abu Dhabi when youre all the way in Wisconsin.

a tenth gen i7 can handle ANY graphics card out there depending on resolution. i have a 11700k and my 3060 is by far the biggest bottleneck.

now when i had an i7-3770k was a different story, even at 4K.

though 4K i really suggest a 3060TI or RX 6700XT as a minimum. my 3060 does ok on older games at 4K but really unless i have DLSS or happy with 25-30fps, new games are 1440 w/a little sharpening.

however good luck at finding anything that won't cost a kidney . .

Yes sorry I’m at work and was trying to bust out the questions real fast before I had to go unload another truck. I’ll work on it next time. I’d say $700 atm.

Thank you for the input. I’ll see if I can afford one or if I should just R.I.P. the idea for now lol

Also, my location is McHenry County, Illinois

700$ should be fine for a 3060 with some luck, but a 3060 is not fine for 4k, maybe with games that use FSR or DLSS.

Thank you, I did say 4K would be nice. Not necessarily exactly what I’m looking for unless that is in fact the only way I’m going to get a good picture on a tv? I see people say like 1440 and stuff like that. I just wanna have decent quality with no stuttering. Even if 1080 with high settings look good I just want something that can deliver frames and a decent picture without having to turn all the settings down. Thank you !

1440p is fine on a 4k monitor because we are usually talking of small differences. 1440p in a big 4k tv will not look great. It's all about the pixels per inch, ppi ratio

Ok thank you. I’m thinking about using affirm with Newegg to get a decent card but now I’m scared to see how long will something actually take to arrive these days lol.

My bad i also forgot to mention (i don't game on tv), on a tv it also depends if you sit a couple meters away or if you use it as close as a monitor. I think if you sit as far as we usually watch tv you don't see so much the difference, but i'm a bit out of my depth, haven't gamed on a tv for a long time.
Still i would say it's best to aim for a 4k capable gpu

You know now that I’m on my pc again right now finally playing again it has my resolution down to 2560x1440 instead of 3840x2160 which it defaulted to yesterday. It’s running smoother and the gpu is not going over 60 degrees Celsius.

I’m not sure what caused it to change. I am using big picture mode with steam on the tv and my temp monitors on my regular pc screen and it seems pretty decent I can’t complain. Thanks for all the help everyone. I will still be getting a graphics card forsure but this is much more manageable than it seemed yesterday.

I can tell it’s not as crispy as the higher resolution but once I get a gpu more proper I assume this is where I will see the true benefits of a good gpu. Thanks again.
