Anyone else disappointed with the AMD 3D-Vcache reveal?

...because Zen 3 itself is a new CPU architecture?
What on Earth are you smoking? Zen 3 was launched more than a year ago.
Because so far, Intel hadn't gotten their shit together, and were giving out lackluster performance whilst consuming enough power and generating enough heat to heat a room, literally?
At the time you made your original post, ADL had been available for more than a month. So again, I'd love to know what you're smoking.
What? It's still one of the top single threaded/gaming chips?
15% behind the fastest chip (at 720p. Far smaller at higher res, even with a 3080), and only needing a wraith stealth cooler...

Hell look at the superpi results where it smashes ahead of so many other chips, purely single threaded

And the 5800x doesnt consume a lot of power... it makes a lot of heat due to the IHS not working with the density, but it doesnt use any more power than any of the other CPU's...

Good job (a) ignoring that the 8-core 5800X is beaten by the 6-core, and cheaper, 12600K (b) attributing any value to a synthetic benchmark like SuperPI.

For gaming, just disable the OSD and you wouldn't know if it's an Intel or AMD CPU running the game.

If you guys buy out all the 5800X 3D chips, Lisa will make more.

the 5600x does have faster single core results at times. That's not ignoring anything, that's reality.

Funny how at TPU, i trust TPU reviews...

Excuse me for living in a corner of the world in which we don't upgrade our computers every six months.

That has nothing to do with your claim that Zen 3 is a new architecture, and everything to do you with attempting to move the goalposts rather than admit you were wrong.

For me, the chip will have to stay around $450. $499 will be pushing it. I'll probably sell my 5800X at a good price to absorb the cost.

The 3D V-cache seems like a gimmick to me. I am skeptical the 96MB vs 32MB will make a big difference given that the 5800X3D runs at a lower frequency than the 5800X.

In a historical sense, and L4, not L3, but maybe as an apt analogy; did the 5775C's extra 128MB L4 make enough difference against the 4790K to matter?

The majority if gains in gaming specifically have been due to cache increases more so than frequency/core increases how much jumping to 96MB is going to help who knows probably not enough to justify the cost increase.... We will see in 4-5 months I guess.

Yes.

The L4 eDRAM made the laptop 5775C competitive against Desktop Skylake and Desktop Zen2 for crying out loud. That's a generation behind and a power-consumption deficit of 60W less.

Video games love cache.

Video games are like women, they just want your cache

This terrible, terrible joke brought to you by the british accent

I love the way when comparing zen 3 to ADL people say its invalid because the zen3 is older. imo makes no difference if AMD has nothing newer to compare it to.

I have a good why do women joke but you will have to PM me for it ;)

I think it's more about intel taking over a year to respond to it and on top of that multiple years to compete on MT performance.

Otherwise it's just people being salty of course we need to compare to see how much one vendor has improved vs the others best stuff and previous architectures.

This is much better times than getting 5 gens of skylake

This is much better times than getting 5 gens of skylake. It is, or letting Amd go for years like Intel did with nothing competitive from the other side, which is no good for us customers. At least there is a kinda good choice now depending if you roll red or blue.

Ball is definitely in amd court with zen4 although Zen3 seems to be easily outselling ALD looking at amazon/newegg which makes no sense to me. Zen3 has a pricing issues hopefully it's not a Tsmc thing. I guess now that the non k chips are out and b series boards hopefully that puts more pressure on AMD. Only the 5800X has seen a meaningful discount but even at $360 ish it's not a good value unless you already have a compatible mobo.

Either way competition is good nothing annoys me more than fanboys from either camp chirping for too long.

If i had already had a 570 AM4 board, had 450m/2600x, i probably would have got a 58/900x instead of going for the ADL( not that i regret it ) but as i was gifted the ADL and board at the time i figured why not go for something new. When i got this in Nov the 5800x was still pretty expensive here (UK) though iirc. 5800x is still £399, 5900x £529 here, still too much.

Your 12700k is probably the best current gen cpu at a min the most well rounded... Almost replaced my 5800X in my secondary pc just to mess with one but I really want to wait for Meteorlake depending on how good zen4/am5 is. It's a damn shame the gpu market is so terrible most people don't even have gpu fast enough to take advantage of Zen3 let alone ALD maybe that's partly why amd is only doing one sku.

By the time the market corrects itself if it ever does there will be much better cpu/platforms is the only real downer for all the stuff coming this year.

Yeah tell me about it, i'm still running a 980ti with my ALD, probably still be another 4mths till i can see what i can get then. Will meteor lake still be LGA1700 compatible?

Still can't wait to see if tsmc's, sorry AMD's 3d vcache works out.

I am totally ok with Intel being stronger right now.. its about damn time if I am honest. It is not strong enough to make me want to bail on a year old system though.. but it was pretty close :D

Up here in the Great White North I could sell my 5900X right now and take that and get a 12th gen and buy a board with my own cash.. but I will wait..

Not fancy a play with ADL?

Would be more of a sidegrade for you especially with your gpu and in most applications... Definitely not worth it unless you moved up to a 12900k which has other issues

Funny how shit continuously gets back to AL eh

I'm thinking , actually nearly just bought a 5900X I'll also wait, until the computer says yes instead of no.

They'll likely release a 3Dx version after I buy one though.
