All social media is poop, which is why i like our privately owned TPU where i mostly get away with being an official nuisance
I officially apologize for the OG GN.

Is that really that extraordinary? Elon Musk literally grew up in Apartheid-era South Africa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid).

Tesla already lost $137,000,000 to a case of racism. The fact that racists exist in the company is already proven. The discussion/debate is about how far up the chain it goes.

In which case I’m glad the courts are there to remedy the issue.

No comment on my questions though?

South Africa has had and continues to have issues, blaming Musk for what happened for a short time while he was a kid is a low blow.

I'm not blaming Musk for Apartheid.

I'm blaming him for huge, systemic racism issues that are well-documented and currently occurring in one of his flagship companies: Tesla.

I'm speculating that growing up in aparteid-era South Africa was a bad-influence on him. The racism issues within Tesla was already proven, again to $137,000,000. Tesla was ordered to fix the issue, but the issues remain. At this point, we have to wonder why there has been no progress and why so many other African-American workers are filing complaints.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Are they accusing a actual African American of being racist?

What stops them from creating a rival company?

What stops them from leveraging experience elsewhere?

What stops them from quitting in protest?

I’m unwilling to take claims of racism at face value in our current political climate of Juicy Somollet, fake hate crimes, reparation for crimes of the past. https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/hate-crime-hoaxes-are-more-common-than-you-think-11561503352

Individual freedom through individual responsibility is the ultimate utopia, every adult should be free to do as they please unless directly harming another or directly calling for the harm of another, anything beyond this is a form of tyranny.
The fact that you think those questions you're asking there make sense says a lot about you understanding literally nothing lmao

Seems like a terrible business decision, though amusing in the short term.

I didn't know (if this is even correct) that Tesla doesn't traditionally do advertising. But Musk's following on Twitter gives his brands a lot of exposure. In buying it, he's got a huge PR boost.

It's possible, but it just seems to me that the atmosphere around social media is changing.

I like Musk. It would seem he is the only one actually sane in the entire world. All those racial stuff is just stupid. It is like people want to be offended cause they are bored to death and they are looking for a reason or for some action. I been called racists so many time and yet my wife is from Kenya. It is just crazy with all those accusations. I dont even pay attention to those things anymore.

I literally think that people are getting dumber every century clinging to things that literally mean nothing. Scream for free speech and forbid for words use or even mandate words usage. Monthy Pythons circus is more realistic than what's happening now in the world. I went to Kenya and people would point fingers at me calling me Mzungu out loud (white person in Swahili) and yet I did not get offended but if you think about it, that would have been racism to people. Freaking madness some people have in their heads.
Just remembered, in Kenya they charge you extra if you are white  if you are buying things at the street market.

It's certainly fair to say that the lunatics are in charge of the asylum. I'm not extreme in my views, I just want the balance set to the middle.

Are they accusing a actual African American of being racist?

Elon Musk is a white caucasian male and, as anyone from any race whatsoever, he is "able" to be racist - as in act discriminatorily towards any other race. How about sticking to facts instead of pulling the farfetched "he is an African American" when, though it's somewhat valid to call him that (born in South Africa to a Canadian mother and South African father, naturalized American), he doesn't conform or represent in any way what's commonly known as African American and in particular in this case.

Is that really that extraordinary? Elon Musk literally grew up in Apartheid-era South Africa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid).

He's just a part of the company, a particularly loud one, but just a part. I doubt he knows anything about what's going on in the middle of the factory or day to day stuff like that. Pulling his upbringing in the Apartheid regime is just bad faith.

Seems like a terrible business decision, though amusing in the short term.

Absolutely, I don't know how is twitter even able to stay afloat (their recent stock movement before Musk got in seems to somewhat agree lol)

I didn't know (if this is even correct) that Tesla doesn't traditionally do advertising. But Musk's following on Twitter gives his brands a lot of exposure. In buying it, he's got a huge PR boost.

They allegedly never spend any money in advertising since Elon Musk already does more than enough noise to publicize the company :D There's a lot of intelligence in that, they were able to take advantage of all the click baity and detractors articles to boost their own profile without spending a cent. Even their competition marketing campaings seems to do wonders (anecdotally after all the EV ads on the super bowl there was a big spike in Tesla ordes). There's also the plain stupidity and somewhat insanity of just dissolving the PR department more recently which let's any problem and resulting bad press run amock. Maybe when the company matures a bit more things improve I guess...

The Tesla factory is literally segregated. Black workers on that line, white workers on another line.

Of course I'm going to wonder where Elon Musk got that idea from, and growing up in a literally segregated country (aka Apartheid) is my #1 guess for influence.

That short of crap has been dead in the USA (let alone California) for nearly a century, but in contrast was how Elon Musk's home country was organized when Musk was growing up.

Musk is very talented at making money. How will his fragile ego cope with the pandoras box of vile, nastiness he's just opened and sure to receive from the toxic community he's just stepped in? Probably not too well is my guess. Emotional purchases generally don't pan out particularly well. Especially, when you overpay so dramatically!

Great job of trying to get the thread closed people. Gold star for YOU!

You missed my point, how likely is it that Elon Musk came down from his ivory tower to decide whatever is going on in any particular production line? My point is just he is only a loud mouthpiece for the company, production line and stuff like that are most probably well bellow his pay grade, but since he is the de facto face of the company (that doesn't even have a public pr department) it's easy to make him the cause or responsible for anything that happens there.

Or maybe he's that terrible of a human being, I don't know

You missed my point, how likely is it that Elon Musk came down from his ivory tower to decide whatever is going on in any particular production line? My point is just he is only a loud mouthpiece for the company, production line and stuff like that are most probably well bellow his pay grade, but since he is the de facto face of the company (that doesn't even have a public pr department) it's easy to make him the cause or responsible for anything that happens there.

Or maybe he's that terrible of a human being, I don't know
He doesn't have to be - culture like that seeps down from the top, through management hiring/promotion, workplace policies, company structuring, internal rules and regulations, HR, etc. It is entirely possible that this happened entirely separately from Musk's decisionmaking, but whoever did implement it might also have felt strong signals towards something like this being desirable from executives and upper management in all kinds of ways. Either way, as CEO (and a famously hands-on one at that) he's directly responsible.

This has been going on for 10 years. The reports in the court case start in 2012.

As the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk is directly responsible at this point. If not for the initial decision, then for keeping this segregated workforce in place for so long.

As the chairman, CEO, and largest shareholder.... Musk has the direct ability to change the culture of his company.

This isn't just some random executive. Musk is practically Tesla. Very few companies have a chairman / CEO / majority shareholder like this.

Hey, psssst, over here! It seems you might have missed the memo? The one from the late stage capitalist billionaire's handbook? Okay, this is how it goes: Musk as CEO is personally and individually responsible for all of Tesla's successes, no matter how little his actual involvement, while all failures are the sole responsibility of the lowest level personnel on which it can reasonably be pinned, and in these cases Musk can in no way be expected to have known about these minute low-level workings of his company. Got that? Great. Now carry on.
