I think it has been a month (or longer?) of the same poll on home page. It went up with the rumor or launch of the 3090ti? I wonder if that poll can be monetized. For example, have a weekly poll that allows (and charge them) manufacturers (since this is a hardware site) to ask relevant product questions, gauge product interests, etc. I don't know the traffic volume of TPU, or how many people participate in the poll, but if there is a need to increase participation - raffle draw from the manufacturer!

Thoughts?

I think we did this once before, but general interest is not _that_ high from vendor side, they usually prefer guesswork :)

New ideas for the poll are always welcome

Computex and its announcements next week should bring new fodder for polls

or how many people participate in the poll

There's no sense in paying someone for something that they love to give to you for free. Create a post about a piece of hardware or software and people will flock to it. That's one of the reasons this site exists.

Checking SimilarWeb it shows TPU gets about 6M visits a month, so a participation of just 19k votes over at least a month is minuscule. I still think there is opportunity to monetize the poll to do some quick marketing research for some vendors. Perhaps reach out to them again with a more thorough/thought out proposal?

I still think a raffle could encourage more participation.

I'm guessing that the 6M monthly visits (which works out to 200K per day) includes people who visit multiple times as well as infrequent visitors. There are probably some users here with multiple logins. I don't believe one can vote twice on a poll from a single account. This site -- like most Q&A forums on the Internet -- is also subject to the drive-by posters who ask one or two questions within a day of registering, then vanish FOREVER. Those people had no intent on contributing to a community.

A raffle might encourage more participation but who is going to fund that? And the site operator probably can't ship raffle prizes to every single country without complications due to tax and customs issues. Is the extra bump in traffic worth it to the site operator?

Raffles will be provided by the vendors, as the polls will be questions that the vendors want to ask. Don’t they have giveaway on this site once in a while? Vendors determine where in the world that they will be willing to ship to.

Occasional raffles/contests/giveaways are cool, but PLEASE, do NOT allow this site to be turned into yet ANUTHA schill tool for the mass-marketing, greed-mongering, giant-mofo-loving p.0.s crapola dumpster for every single money-grubbin sleezeball advertiser on the planet, which is a mistake some other once-popular websites have recently made, and then wonder why their traffic volume has collapsed into near nothingness...

No, nope, notta, no way, jose' :D

It is not mass marketing, but a poll for vendors to gauge interest or test ideas. By the way, advertisements are what keep this site going. It is a fine line walked by the owner to keep the site content and reviews independent.

Indeed it is, and this was the whole point of my comment.... Yes advertising pays the bills, it just suks whalla when the payments for those ads gets turned into leverage to get a site to become a garbage scowl of relentless greed and pursuit of never ending consumer badgering for moar & moar profits...

Any ideas for a new poll?

Not a very good one but maybe it will provoke something worthwhile.
Now that gpu prices are coming down, will you finally be purchasing that long awaited upgrade? Or will you wait a few more months and see if you can score a next gen card before the scalpers?

Any ideas for a new poll?
"What is your backup scheme?"
-mirror the drive
-incremental backups
-just the important stuff
-backups are not performed

Any ideas for a new poll?
Put that up as the poll question to attain ultimate trollium-status.

With yes/no/maybe for options.
