EK specifically told me you can run their D5 24/7. Of course if it dies under warranty they will replace it (I keep a spare on hand). In the winter I run it 24/7 to keep the pc temps more consistent as the room I am in gets quite cold during the winter. And that's why it died. Pumps are not designed to run 24/7 for years on end. You might want to consider changing you computing ethic to include shutting your system down when not in use. Sleep and hibernation do not count..
Seriously?*cough* fish tanks *cough*

There are distinct differences between pumps made for a fish tank and that of those made for electronics cooling. This guy gets it
THIS guy actually gets it. However, 100k hours is a bit to high for consumer grade equipment.Tbh running a pump for 24/7 or 8 hrs a day doesn't change the life time of the pump. (hours active)
It may change how long the pump lasts but the life time of the pump is typically how many hours it is rated for. But that's true with most pieces of tech.
If it's 100,000 hours for example it doesn't matter if it's 24hr or 8hrs a day, typically it'll still last 100,000 hours or there about.
Perhaps, but you are talking about elitist hardware rated for 50k hours of run time. The pump alone $79. That is far cry from the stuff you get from your average vendor and especially AIO's.EK specifically told me you can run their D5 24/7.
Then there are pumps like this that have big bold warnings:Edit: so I’m not waiting for my first pump/res to come back in stock(no date). So I ordered the “stubby” EK because I do have concerns about space constraints. It was on sale, in stock and I’m saving quite a bit even including buying fittings

Please lex I know you mean well but that pump ran 24/7 for over a decade across at least 5 builds and if I wasn’t a clumsy oaf it would still be running I. Bare wired it and got a gurgle out of it but when I tried to hard wire it just wouldn’t roll. So it’s been laid to rest and the aquarium pump is still valid you get the design is pretty much the same and Hellfire just put some proper context in support of me not you.Seriously?

Most pumps do not have anywhere near the durability of EK's offerings.

I was always curious as to the threshold of running dry before damage occurs. Is it in seconds, minutes, hours?Yeah, the first time you run dry, you ruin the pump.
Seconds. Technically it'll still run, but you're gonna have serious problems..Is it in seconds, minutes, hours?

Just let’s nit conflagrate proper pumps with AIOs. I meanmy first water rig was a legit Akasa product. Honestly it sucked thankfully being a CNC machinist i;was able to fabricate the weak spots and replaced all the Addas server grade fano with SilenXsI'm not trying to be a jerk to you. This next suggestion may cause a raised eyebrow, but with a unit like the one you selected, use automotive radiator fluid. The lubrication properties are perfect for that kind of pump. 50/50 is the best ratio.i’m not excited about my final choice I love the form factor but wary of the DDC pump BUT it’s a “wet pump” so it may actually suit my current mindset only time will tell

Nah innards are fine I accidentally yanked the wires from the Molex amd we are talking like 3-4 strand wires. I tried popping the Molex pins amd attempted to crimp them ,then tried soldering them then I even stripped some fan wires(integrated in the daisy chain) no joy. Best i got was a gurgle when I jammed the wires directly into a hot Molex. It’s lived a good life, kept up with tech considering it was released for the P4 so as much as I want to come back it’s earned it’s rest it will be kept with my other stored antiques where it belongs.Aw man, that's a drag. 15 years is a damn good run tho! If possible pop it open and see if you can repair the innards!
I've got some old ddcs that are around that age but only one of three works reliably. I've managed to kill a lot of em ;D Patience was not one of my virtues in my ddc days.
EK pumps (mines great)are solid but all ddc and d5s are still made by the same company, they read as three but are just different divisions (laing, xylem, lowara... altho the alphacool rep says that laing and xylem are the only ones now? Haven't looked around yet.) so quality and longevity should be consistent from one to another. Some EK and Alphacool (vpp) d5s are tweaked slightly but I'll take a good ol laing pump everyday of the week.
I haven't run anti-freeze in a long long time but I always ran 10-90% to avoid running the fluid too thick. With small pumps it can make them work alot harder. Never tried it with a d5 tho. I had no luck with water wetter. I'm not sure if it was the tygon or the petras or a combination of the two reacting with it but no matter what I did i ended up with white scaly flakes and never ending foam in my res. Gave up on the WW and tygon and that was that. I've been afraid to mess with it since haha.
Good luck with the new pump res combo! I've had really good luck with ek pumps and reservoirs. And I'm told by alot of people that cryofuel is solid as well.
Yes, they do.Pumps live a hard life...
Both of those are excellent. I'll shut up, forge ahead mate!I’m gonna use EK Cryofuel. BUT if you checked my link to my OG WC rig Akasa actually sent you a syringe of Redline Water Wetter I still have the syringe and still used to top up my previous res.

That’s encouraging. I’m a little wary of the DDC being a “wet pump” but as has been discussed already at length, I intend to run it 24/7 but ill be exploring the PWM control options amd of poss like my fans have it lower the speed when it’s idle and temperatures are low.It had a good, long life.

Actually the problems with 2 of my my old DDCs were/are getting them to restart after shut downs. They would spin, stop, spin, stop, sometimes I could knock on the pump top and get them to start up but usually I had to shut the rig down. Once they are running they're fine. So I bet you'll be gtg running 24/7.That’s encouraging.
