...after realizing Snow Runner and Trials Rising were effectively acting like a speedball. o_O ←Honestly, this.

Is the answer FH5 or is there a cheaper fun alternative (in another genre?) I should consider? US$70 and prone to rise yet further is a hurdle.

Avoiding adding Steam on top of Epic and Ubisoft apps that insistently start and run endless background processes would be great too.

Wreckfest

Wreckfest

Sorry to say the answer to slow and technical and technical with need to be fast isn't the middle ground that game exists in.

Asphalt 8 was a fun racing game but I'm not sure recreating that is what I'm looking for. At least there were no puzzles to solve at 280mph when people were attempting to make you crash.

Edit: I'm thinking my current quandary was related to equal enjoyment of Hill Climb Racing 2 at the same time. Within weeks both were effectively made unplayable on PC and I haz a sad.

Wreckfest is a pretty solid rally racing game, the game is marketed as a demo derby but the real gem of the game is the online dirty/semi clean/clean banger racing. It takes some real skill to use an unarmored antique sports car and not get wrecked by buses driving the course backwards.

Poor old hill climb 2 - I really enjoyed it. Maybe something different like GTA?

Will give consideration to moving this up my list. It certainly was already there for exactly the reasons you've mentioned. For the time being it looks like a great place to repeat the same errors tripping me up. Maybe the stupidly fast RidgeRacer type games you can enjoy immediately don't exist so much anymore.

To be perfectly clear my skill level ran into a steeper learning curve than expected. Which should be taken to mean I didn't take gaming seriously enough to create an environment success would be possible in. A solid rethink on my part is going to be required. Suddenly tonight the whole "I play ___ game (singular)" started making sense.

I've been steadily looking at what is out there I'd be interested in playing. The only other game than Horizon 5 in a wish list currently is Sniper Elite 5. GTA and it's sleazier inbred cousin twice removed Saints Row don't have much appeal anymore.

The idea of needing a $2K racing setup to have max fun outside a sim like Assetto Corsa. Isn't sitting so well tonight.

Mebbe completely switch up and go for a FPS or a RTS or something?

Ha, I was thinking about opening something sitting in my fridge and looking at gaming keyboards.

Something you might like would be to use PCSX2 emulator and try SSX, SSX Tricky, SSX 3, the series was a combination of a downhill snowboard racing with earning points from performing tricks to get speed boosts. The level design was fantastic.

Hey! I just realized Windows 11 can install Android apps like Hill Climb 2.

You mean enabling it within OS the same way Linux can work as VM.

Seem to remember looking into this few years back and current mobo doesn't allow turning on virtualization.
