Hello,

I want to build a computer. I do not have a desktop pc right now.

I will use the computer for gaming, graphic design, 3D modeling, 3D rendering, movie editing.

Which system is good to build with, Intel 13900k, Ryzen 5950, Ryzen 7950? DDR4 or DDR5?
I am interested in the Ryzen 7950 but the price to build that is high.

Also in addition to building the big system, I have a unopened unused 850watt psu and unused unopened DDR4 ram 32gigs 3200. I cannot use the psu with the gpu I have, 3090Ti. So I don't want to waste the parts and don't want to try sell, won't get much from it. So would building a 2nd smaller system be good to not to waste the parts? I would use the 2nd system for gaming, server, storage and backup workstation. I would build a Ryzen 5700x system with a 3070 gpu.

Looks at the review results:

Independent to the results with AMD you will be able to upgrade the CPU to the next
generation and keep the same motherboard.

I like to use https://pcpartpicker.com to find the parts and evaluate the price.

What games are you planning to play? What resolution?

How much time you will spend per week doing the following:
1. Graphic Design.
2. 3D Modeling.
3. 3D Rendering.

What is the resolution of the footage you will be working on for video editing?

What country are you located, what is your budget, what is your monitor resolution and when do you plan on purchasing your components?

The DDR4 and PSU you have may be worth selling, what PSU is it? It can also be useful to have a spare PSU, as you've said, not worth much. The 3090 ti is a good card for your use case. DDR4 is not as fast as DDR5 for workstation tasks, due to having lower bandwidth, in gaming they're very similar.

13700K/900K
Asus Z790 (Z690 is cheaper but has worse memory support).
32 GB/64 GB 6000 MHz+ DDR5 (2/4 x 16 GB modules), higher amounts of RAM won't run as fast, but you may need more than 32 GB.
RTX 3090 ti or RTX 4090 (3090 non ti has memory overheating issues, 24GB frame buffer is very useful for 3D modelling, and these models, while expensive, are much cheaper than equivalent Quadro/Firepro models). The 3090ti is pretty cheap now that the 4090 is out, but it's about 60% as fast, still good for the 24 GB VRAM.
Any 2 TB SSD from our editors choice SSD, another if you need more storage than that.
A PSU 850 W+ from our editors choice PSU, or just get the Seasonic Prime PX/TX 850/1000 W or a bequiet dark power 12 850 W/1000 W.
Fractal design makes good cases, so does Corsair, or hit our reviews.

For cooling I would recommend a Noctua U12A or a custom waterloop (do not buy an AIO in general), but if it's the first PC you've built I wouldn't worry about custom water.

Noctua NF-A12x25 or the Phanteks T30 are good for case fans, sometimes cases can come with bad stock fans, so it may be worth swapping them out so the only fans in the system are good ones.

You don't need 16 cores with graphic design/modeling. As rendering happens on GPU....
I suggest the most important thing is your monitor/gpu/psu.
You're putting too much emphasis on cpu imo
Perhaps multiple monitors bring a lot more efficiency to your workflow that extra cpu cores.

Thanks,

The psu I cannot use for the 3090ti is a EVGA Supernova 850 G+

So DDR5 ram is better for workstation? So sticking with Intel right now is better than going Ryzen 7950?

You have a 3090Ti system? Is the second system necessary? Almost sounds like you're pissing money away for the sake of "not wasting parts".

Those unopened parts will sell quick on here or ebay.

Some rendering software is coded for CPU only, FYI.

Some other programs also only utilize CPU for calculating some things too. if you ever run VM's more than 20 cores is a plus.
Just trying to say, getting more cores because you can isn't always a bad thing :D

Here's an option: sell 3090ti, psu, rams and buy a 4090 :D

It really depends on which software he uses.

That second small pc he's planning to build, still needs motherboard, storage, case, peripherals.
Does he already own a 3070 and 5700x?!!!
May be someone else at home will use it. We don't know.

With things I use, cpu cores are most of time unused. Except when preparing shaders (which is fraction of the total workflow)
I use Maya, Unreal, substance.

I get an 8 core cpu next time.
I think you need a lot of hard disk space btw. 2tb that@dgianstefani suggested is way too scarce.
Get a mechanical hard disk for storing your 2k 4k footages in addition to the ssd.

Then dump it and use a gpu renderer instead , lol :D
