Hello all,

I currently have a pc setup (Nemesis) in my living room for watching stuff & playing games. The sound comes from the Philips 558M1RY/00 monitor with built-in soundbar, which for most scenarios is fine, however I do miss my previous surround sound setup. Connection is with an [HDMI (ARC)] cable, atm. edit: it's DisplayPort

Now, my question, is it possible to add 2 extra speakers, for surround sound, and still use the built-in soundbar?
If it works, I'll probably have to add a receiver or something, right?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Yes.
Using a receiver with hdmi cable.
Then connect all your speakers up to the receiver switch channels.

Don't think so. It looks like no speaker level inputs on soundbar. If they are hidden, then Thrashzone's suggestion will work. If you are super skilled, you might be able to open up the soundbar and wire directly to receiver.

Or if there is a separate line level input, you could use pre-out from receiver to feed the soundbar as center channel.

Hi,
Might take an image of the connections you have on the tv and sound bar just to confirm.

The soundbar doesn't have any ports. And the monitor only has several HDMI and DP ports, no audio options at all (except to plug in headphones).
I can't wrestle with the monitor myself plus all the stuff I have near it so the manual will have to do.

I'm thinking of buying the Denon AVC-S660H

Hi,
Hopefully this is the digital audio optical on that monitor if so you can just use it to connect to the receiver
Sure doesn't look like a usb up lol

Before ordering confirm on the tv that port looks just like the optical port on the receiver
It should have a little flipper door just like the image shows.

Nope, it's the bulky USB. Most printers have the same connector.

As for the optical, the monitor doesn't have that.

The motherboard does have an optical so splitting the audio and video is an option. However, I doubt it will use the soundbar too.

Hi,
Are you using display port for display ?
hdmi input might be all the receiver needs for sound on the new additional speakers
Sound bar will work as it always has.

I doubled checked and... yes I currently use DP for both video and audio.
That's good to know
Cheers!
