Yeah, for the screw-in heatsinks you will need a back plate or something to screw to.
(you can test if the heatsink fits the backplate by just screwing it to the back plate without anything between them. It makes it much easier to manage stuff : )

Some cases have the metal motherboard holder actually have screw holes for screw in heatsinks. Depends on the desktop case tho.. It doesn't sound like yours does.
** FOR ONLY £10 ** - Shown working at collection - MSI Motherboard + Athlon CPU + HDD + Ram inside Full Tower Case - PC was previously used to test AGP / PCI I was just after a case
but this would be good for a build.£10
And this nice looking case also for £10

And will this

or will it only fit on an Acer PC, I am hoping it will fit on my motherboard as that board that I said I would buy was an Acer board, I was going to put it on my Motherboard.

The ATX case standard hasn't really changed much since it was introduced, and the changes are all about extending to all allow larger and smaller board sizes. You should be fine with putting the motherboard in any standard ATX case. If the cooler is for socket 775 it may work. It looks like that one requires a backplate and if it is non-standard you may run into issues. Also, you will probably need to mount it before putting the board in a case. Finally, the four pin connectors are backwards compatible, they just use different methods for controlling the fan speed. Four pin (PWM) allows for lower minimum fan speeds. More consistent fan speeds as well in my experience.

That,s interesting Lex says it should be a bigger fan because the quad CPU,s are 95w.
What Core2Duo did you have in there?
95w TDP?! dang I didn't realize that! CPU's have come a long way for the performance per watt.

specifically the Q6600 @ 65nm Lithography & 105w TDP :joy:
That's just insane. gotta love old hardware tho, best fun to tinker around with.

It looks like the standard ATX standoffs are actually part of the motherboard tray itself. This is pretty common on cheaper case designs. I don't care for them since they tend to have more issues versus the brass/metal replaceable standoffs. A case like this would take the brass ones in places that would be optional.

I have an E8600 in mine that is interesting. :)
I had to run my E8600 at 4700 to match the power of a stock Q6600 :D

Now I just have a boring X3360, the Xeon 9550.

They certainly have. :) I am new to all this Retro stuff.:)Just building my first PC.

He said they can be moved *it has the standoffs for a micro ATX motherboard although they can just be moved if yours is ATX. I can throw in a fan for the rear of the case too.*What is the make and is it good value at £10.?
Would this one be better

I think any case that isn't rusted and is a standard ATX case is probably a safe bet at £10, which is like $12 US. If it were me, I would go with the case with the front panel USB3 ports if they are still good.

Thanks, i got in touch with the guy of the other case, you have no idea what the other case is? But if it is not available the first case will be fine for my Core2 build?

Unless you want to mount a monster tower cooler like a Noctua NH-D15, either case should be just fine if the board is standard ATX. The big tower coolers need a wider case to fit properly. For reference, standard ATX motherboards are 305 × 244 mm, micro ATX are 244 x 244 mm. Wikipedia has a lot of information about the various ATX form factors and variations. ATX Wiki

Nah, rather get a cheap tower cooler. Those fist-sized "normal" coolers are probably in the same level as the stock one.

Mine is 305mm x 244mm.I just picked it up today. All good. :)Just the basic cooler I put on here earlier.:)

Well, using similar socket & I do NOT use those intel heatsinks...do NOT get me wrong, those coolers are OK for normal work.
But I crunch 24/7, so no...those are NOT GOOD for me!

Alternatives?
Arctic cooler 7
Arctic cooler 13 Pro
some Cooler Master, just not T20.

Those coolers are not cheap. What about the one I bought Foxconn? I did not want to pay much as I just want to see if I can build my first PC. Who knows where it can go from there.

Consider them same as intel ones, not for 24/7.

& do NOT use Hyper T20, see result.

I get your point, but I am just a novice just starting out on building a PC.
Like I said, get an entry-level tower cooler. Getting something similar as a stock cooler is just pure waste of money.

Use Arctic cooler, as they do give you several years of support & can replace your part if they fail.

Then just use a stock cooler.
I did not want to get one of those terrible push-pin ones. Even a Tech person has problems with those push pins. So I got the screw-type one.
This guy is good lots of good tips. :)He is the only one doing this on YouTube. o_OThis guy is using one of those screwed coolers but of course, Foxconn is for Acer boards.
and in 2022. o_OThat GeForce GTS 250 seems to work very well with the Q6600 :)
