Come mid-February 2023, NVIDIA will be ending its GameStream feature on its Shield TV products. The GameStream feature has allowed owners of the Shield TV to stream games from their PC to their Shield TV. It might not have been the flagship feature of the Shield TV, but it has been popular enough that the cancellation has caused quite some stir on the internet. NVIDIA didn't provide any reason as to why the company is ending the GameStream feature, but one could potentially imagine that the company wants to push its customers to use its GeForce NOW paid streaming service instead.

However, NVIDIA does suggest that users could use Steam Link instead, to stream games from their PC to the Shield TV. That said, this would limit users to games found on Steam, which doesn't seem like a great compromise. For those that stream their games, NVIDIA Share is compatible with Steam Link, so there shouldn't be any problem continuing to stream games when playing on the Shield TV.

2028: DLSS1~3 will be ending on Nvidia cards, but you can use the new subscription based DLSS4! Now available only through select Nvidia premium resellers, with HuangCare auto included. RTX6000 series required. The rest of you poor suckers can eat shit.

;)

End a service that doesn't cost a penny for anyone to run in order to force users to use another service that costs both you and them. Genius.

So no love for Epic users? That is a bum move

Earnings are collapsing so they're looking at every way they can to squeeze money out of their existing customer base... Plenty more where this comes from soon and not just from NVDA, which probably goes down to about $30 or even less imo, eventually...

Soo Steam Link is its own app now? Didn't know that. I was kinda hoping nvidia would make another shield with Hdmi 2.1.

I have the steam link hardware. It hasn't been plugged in years because the latency was horrific.

You can add any game from any launcher (if needed) to Steam and play it with a Steam Link device. You can even use it to cast your destktop. You can also use the Remote Play (Together) feature with a compatible device and no Steam account required.

There are also open source alternatives like Sunshine: https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine

I've been using moonlight for what feels like years now, it's so much better than the native game stream app, and now that this is happening, the last reason I used GFE can die and I'll use sunshine.

Having said that....

WTF?!? this is a massive feature for this device that was promoted during sales and now they're gonna nerf it? It's a massive part of why I bought it that's for sure, I hope this gets a tonne of strong backlash, there's already this petition too and reddit discussion on it.

So, any bets when driver updates will be payable and treated as DLC?

Since you buy a graphics card with certain functions, all additional optimizations, new games support and new functions could be considered as an additional value, not included in price of purchase!

Paying for driver updates? Nah, that can't happen... selling them as a subscription service on the other hand... (I hope no one from Nvidia is checking this forum) :D

So this sounds like its a LAN thing, so I assume they killing via firmware upgrade, thats really lame.

CEO meeting.

"lets kill it on next firmware update move people to geforce now."

3 months later

"umm boss 94% blocked the upgrade"
ceo - "make geforce now need latest firmware"
"umm boss we did that, they just cancelled geforce now instead"
ceo - "what!!!, they our minions we need to be in control of what we sell them"

Long time lurker but made an account just to reply to this. Thank you so much. I use moonlight a lot to stream games on my nvidia PCs and this is amazing as an alternative to shield. Much appreciated.

Please don't share/stream your home made p*rn via Nvidia cloud or got risk to be blackmailed. Huh.

Ten years ago, thereabouts, I bought a Samsung TV with skype built in (mic, camera). Quite a premium, but i got it so that we could big screen with the grandparents. It lasted about 2 years before the feature was dropped, and no longer worked. Since then, i DO NOT BUY TVs using app features as a determining criteria. We've now all got ipads and skype on ipads, so the lost skype on tv is less of a problem. Nonetheless, a big screen tv with skype let the family sit on the sofa, or stand and wiggle, living room to living room. Can't do,that with an iPad. Features lost.

Hi,
Yep I just use smart t.v's as dumb devices "never giving them wifi passwords" like a monitor and hook a much smarter computer to them.
Even a shit computer is smarter than t.v's.

I forgot Nvidia shield existed and now there is really no point to it.

Well, not smarter but more versatile and powerful.

AFAIK a single desktop PC is the sweet spot for versatility, performance, efficiency or even mobility. Anything above and below or even sideways will inevitably hurt at least one of those aspects.

Hi,
Nope pc's are way smarter
Just the use of any mouse and keyboard on them makes them way smarter than any smart t.v
Just because a t.v has a remote does not make them smarter

Yeah at this point I won't be surprised if you have to pay a subscription after purchasing your GPU in order to even use it to play games.

The way these people are going and the idiots here and everywhere else wiping the seed of leather jacket man off their chins, just to get a 4090 and other overpriced cards, they see their customers as suckers and pull other shit like this.

Hi,
Only 10 people world wide bought shield tv's

Hi,
Funny I don't use any of those services just funds wasted in my book
I just rip shit from the internet via download or record and play it locally and yes surround sound is one that is included.
Way to many free movie/ t.v. series sites around now days.
