RX580 Sapphire Pulse - Stock BIOS reflash

Hi,

I bought a used RX580. The seller did not tell me so but I suspect it was used for mining.

I wouldn't have cared were not for the fact that it appears that he has also flashed a modified BIOS in the card: after inserting it into my computer it I wasn't able see the boot splash screen anymore (the screen only shows the OS starting now) and clock and memory timings seem off compared to stock specs.

After some research I came to the conclusion that the stock BIOS is this one: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191713/sapphire-rx580-8192-170324 (By the way, the checksum of a dump of the BIOS in the card and this one differ, even if the build date is supposedly the same)

Can someone help me out and confirm this, before i try to flash it? I have considered returning it, but I'd prefer to keep the card if possible

Thanks

This card has modded Bios which some times breaks UEFI boot Logo early message. Just make sure you have the correct type of memory and the proper vbios for it before flashing. Probably like you said it was modded for mining, the memory timings and the speed are altered and the Core Clock Speed is reduced. That's common when you mine to maximize hashrate.

Have you checked if the card has a dual BIOS switch? Judging by the clocks does look like a modded BIOS is on the card.

Usually mining BIOS will cause code 43 errors has they wont pass windows driver signature check when you boot into windows.

Unfortunately, the card does not have a BIOS switch.

The card appears as working correctly in the device manager, the problem is that I need access to the motherboard BIOS from time to time and as @50eurouser said the modded BIOS may have broken the UEFI bootup screensplash.

If someone can confirm this is the correct BIOS stack: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191713/sapphire-rx580-8192-170324 I'll try to flash it.

Best to wait until someone can confirm that is the correct BIOS before you flash.

Please pull the gpu and get a pic of the white sticker on the side of the heatsink by the pcie blade i need some additional verification

If that GPU says E353 on it I already have tracked a few newer bios down which newer incorporate bug fixes and E387 Bios are interchangeable with E353

Thanks for looking into this! The sticker does say E353.

I've added other pictures in case you may need them.

Directions for flashing:

To locate amdvbflash 2.93

Download atiflash/amdvbflash 2.93
Go here https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/

Then look for Version 4.68, underneath 4.68 you will see a link to show older version, click that and you should see version 2.93

Follow these steps carefully:

1. Open your "C:" drive in Windows, create a new folder, call it atiflash.

2. Extract the contents of atiflash_293.zip to the "C:\atiflash" folder

3. Find the bios file you downloaded and rename the bios file to sp580.rom

4. Move sp580.rom to the "C:\atiflash" folder

5. Open the start menu, type cmd, when cmd.exe appears right click it and hit "Run as administrator"

6. At the command prompt type in cd\ and press enter until only C:\> is on the screen.

7. Type in cd/atiflash and press enter, you should see C:\atiflash>

7a. At C:\atiflash> type in amdvbflash.exe -i to identify which number the gpu is (0, 1, 2)

8. At the C:\atiflash> prompt type in
amdvbflash.exe -unlockrom 0 (or 1, 2)
(there is a space between the e and -unlockrom and 0)(0 is the number zero)
press enter and you will be prompted that the "ROM Unlocked"

9. At the C:\atiflash> prompt type in
amdvbflash.exe -f -p 0 sp580.rom
(there is a space between the .exe and -f, and a space between -f and -p and 0)press enter.

Follow directions on screen and if flash is successful exit the command prompt and restart, windows should show up on screen

@ilragno
Here you go

Sometimes the bios switch is located on the card edge closest to you when mounted in a tower or on the pcie io shield bracket.

I've just flashed the BIOS you suggested, @eidairaman1

Everything works like a charm: access to the motherboard BIOS has been restored, thanks a lot ! >:)
I only ever flash an old bios when there is no others compatible. Im glad it works.

You flashed the 2019 bios right?

Merry Christmas
Guess Finally I found the same problem I'm passing through at moment, the latest amd driver messed up all my clocks. I thought my RX580 Sapp Pulse was starting to blowup until death. But I'm still worried about try the solution you give. Here the prints. Can you please explain in that case the it's the similar problem?

I really need a help don't know where else on entire internet to solve that problem, in fact sometimes recently my setup freezes audio and image then restarts. Tried format windows, testing and cleaning memories, cleaning the gpu, tested the quality of my SSD and HDD but I believe that behaviours of freezing are results of that clocks corruption.

Hello everybody, Sorry for bump on an old thread, quick question: how can I backup the actual BIOS of the card before putting the new one?
Thanks a lot.

Now, please share with us the reason why you want to flash another BIOS file in your card.
Don't do it unless needed.

Initially was about if the card had a "minning" tweak BIOS normally doesn't work on UEFI, but mine seems to have a AMD BIOS. now I wonder if I have the latest one with all bugs resolved, thanks.

Hello again.
If you have a working BIOS, then you should keep it as it is now.
Unlike motherboards, video cards don't need the BIOS to be updated unless you need to for a specific reason ( one of them is to revert back to a non mining BIOS).
So if you have a fully functional card, leave it as it is now.
Cheers
