Which PSU maker is the most reliable?

It is risky changing out a power supply fan with one that might not have enough flow.
For 99% of my use case and load , it doesn't need a fan at all. I'm rarely gaming, and even then, the max system load doesn't go over 300W. Now, if/when I upgrade the GPU to 6800xt or 6900xt, I'll probably swap the F14 for P14, and set the custom fan profile attached to the GPU temp sensor.

@kiriakost hello again, I know this is an off-topic question but I really want to know what makes the difference between the brands?they use the same capacitor, same PCB, same transformer etc.. which component is the reason to be called premium?
This question has an very easy answer, the electricians engineers working for Seasonic they worth more, than few bits of electronic components.
I know, because I did talk with them too.

The leading design at high electrical efficiency, this period of time it is Seasonic work.
Platinum series they operate much cooler at 50% load when gaming.

At summer time (35C in door) all PSU they release heat waves within your living room.
My very aged PSU this releases 55~58C of hot air stream in a room with 35C all ready, the Air-condition unit, this should now work harder to reduce room temperature.
Energy savings comes mostly from a PSU, this having lesser thermal signature when operates at 35C in door.
All new FANLESS Seasonic PSU taking advantage of newest lesser thermal signature, electronics does not run warm, DC fans does not needed.
This is my sort answer, at my product review I will explain more.

We have now fresh EU regulations about the computer PSU and of new changes in the industry and in the market about assembled new PC and Servers.

Seasonic hands down!

Seasonic hands down!

About aesthetics this is unquestionable fact for the PRIME. :toast:
I have old style huge ATX case, and I cannot benefit from the stylish design.

I think that we do need a NEW voting thread at TPU.
What is the most stylish PSU of 2022?
The voice of the people will declare the winner.

Super Flower are the manufacturer who makes everyone elses psu's, they only make psu's and they are smart enough to use Japanese capacitors which is important because Chinese capacitors are usually a smaller capacitor in a big capacitor case. I also like EVGA power supplies and really anyone who offers a 10 year warranty on their product is generally reliable.

Why Japanese capacitors is an important requirement, if you look in the 2200milli farad cap there's probably a 600mf.

Nothing more than marketing terms aimed at people who don't know the first thing about caps...

Let me summarise the thread:

None.

Individual products stand out as reliable, but even that's going to have the rare DOA unit, have different specs due to manufacturing changes, or work differently depending on various countries electrical standards (or even just the wiring in your house. USA standards are a mess, with things like optional grounds)
Stop posting common sense and facts in a thread clearly aimed for fan boys who don't know the first thing about PSU but want to promote "their brand" as superior through tier lists and other nonsense.

Corsair doesn't create anything.
For example, I can order towels from China with my company's logo on them, heck even demand they use the oddly coloured strings for the edge finish, but that doesn't even remotely means that my company created them.
They don't manufacture PSU but they are one of few brands who design PSU and test them in house even though they don't manufacture them.

I have a Corsair RM850 I bought this year. How the fuck do I know if its a VS or CV?
Because it's a RM series and not a VS or CV series

They are the most consistent and persistent.

Andyson seems to make good 1s.

CWT HEC CM make Average units, blue moon make good 1s
Aris has CWT leading more of his best PSU list than any other oem but hey lets not use the leading professional reviews on PSU impact fan boy opinion...

The leading design at high electrical efficiency, this period of time it is Seasonic work.
guess you have never seen server quality designs huh  (question is rhetorical)

And they are lucky to have the best man there is, for the job.

1) Seasonic, 2) Corsair type RMx, 3) BeQueit

just fyi, the only difference to my knowledge of the RM and RMx is the fan used, and the RM fan is considered to be reliable.

I may be wrong about that, thats just what I understand.

As you know, most of PSU's are developed in a handful of corporations. Even Corsair, Asus Thor, MSI, Cooler master, Evga are regular customers of this companies.

As far as I know these companies are Seasonic, FSP and Channel Well Technology. So which one is the best (or well known) PSU maker? I know the specific model matters the most, but in general terms which brand would you pick?

all three are more than capable of manufacturing some quality PSU units, all three are more than capable of manufacturing or (in seasonics case) selling some mediocre units. Dollar for dollar I'll go with CWT with their in house SMT lines and testing. Now that doesn't mean I would take a CWT unit over an FSP or Seasonic because it's more about the actual unit but if I was giving them a bargain basement manufacturing price I would have more faith in CWT. If you were giving them a quality manufacturing price, all three are more than capable as I previously stated.

current RM or previous year RM builds as corsair has played around with that build some?

RMx have better capacitors. Its Japanese like Seasonic with excellent performance and quality....stronger PSU!

RM also has japanese caps (its meaningless marketing term). RMx has a stricter cap approval list than the RM so it always has all Japanese caps. RM may have all a Japanese or a mix (you would need to open your specific unit up to find out). RM also has the rifle bearing fan to the "maglev" bearing in the RMx as well as no cable caps which is a plus for the RM (unless RMx recently moved on as well)

Good point, just remembered my disagreement with this Corsair Series, there is no switch having the fan always on, and the fixed fan-curve out of my likes.
This is why the PRIME it is so perfect about options.

RM fan is considered to be reliable.
they use a 140mm Hong Hua fan that many other oems in that price point use, its old but reliable and doesn't make a lot of noise unless you really push the PSU.

Seasonic, EVGA, and Corsair usually in that order (depends on OEM and build quality)

None are perfect though... pic below is from a recently "retired" Seasonic X-750 (an 80+ gold rated unit with fantastic reviews). The psu ran fine for many years until it didn't. Started getting random shutdowns and then PC just died. Found this on the 8 pin modular MB cable (both sides) when I pulled system apart.

Believe it or not I replaced the psu, cleaned the junk out of the MB socket and the system has been running for several weeks at full load 24/7 w/o issues (3900X, B550 ITX motherboard, small ITX case- Fractal Core 500)

Well, Majority of contributers has suggested that Seasonic is undoubtedly is the best, which I totally agree.

Another vote for Seasonic - I mean, as i witnessed for past 20 years or so - their PSUs were always deemed reliable & true to their given tech specs. Usually more expensive - but since they proved to be solid products - i guess... you do get what to pay for.

I agree as well but 2 out of 3 of the failed units out of the dozens of power supplies I have purchased over the years were Seasonic (neither of them killed any other hardware so that's a plus).

Would avoid the S12III line from Seasonic- I've heard that they are rebrands from a different OEM (not 100% sure on this though)

I've owned more seasonics that other oems and also had more coil whine issues with them than other oems as well.

S12III is outsourced to RBY

Since it varies who makes which PSU, I just buy one with a long warranty and from a company that's been around a bit. If it's got a 10 or 12 year warranty, I don't care who made it as long as whomever sold it to me will honor the warranty. Currently I'm using an EVGA, but I've had Thermaltake in the past and been happy with their performance. The only PSU I've had fail was an OEM Dell unit in a pre-built.

I'll ask here so i won't need to open another thread.
My current PSU is dying or can't handle new components, changed GPU and CPU recently.
Checked power consumption and maxed CPU and GPU is at around 450W.
I looked around and at the same price i can choose between
ASUS ROG STRIX 850W GOLD
Seasonic FOCUS PLUS 850W Platinum
Seasonic PRIME 1000W Gold (SSR-1000GD) - this model is unusually cheaper and different than PRIME-GX-1000 which seems newer in price listings
What should i get ? do you have other recommendations ?

There is no such thing as undoubtedly best it will always come down to the specific unit in use.

S12III is the budget lineup so their is nothing to expect from it.

any on the list will do as will any of the three you mentioned, the SSR-1000GD comes with a 12yr warranty which is nice

S12III is the budget lineup so their is nothing to expect from it.
I was told "Seasonic is undoubtedly is the best"(sic) so no passes on budget units

At my Blog front page, I have Corsair burned connector 8 Pin. CX750 (2013) it also burned 5x MOSFET at DC/DC board.
This is damage caused by vibrations, you get killed in the game , then you kick the PC. case :)

I did repair and refurbish the PSU, but it did not last long. 16 months and problems again, above 280W of load it does shutoff all by it self.
My verdict as Pro repair man, over-current protection circuit lost it factory calibration = not repairable
I did start using again my much older PSU HIPER 780W (2008) , I did refurbish it this year, still working great.

These are my personal experiences alone, they do not represent any worldwide RED ALERT.
Well, Majority of contributors has suggested that Seasonic is undoubtedly is the best, which I totally agree.

Do not keep us waiting ... PRIME or FOCUS ? ;)

PRIME or FOCUS
I could pick any 850w seasonic PSU if it was available here.
Currently I'm waiting the EU warehouse to confirm the stock exists or not.
Local distributor of seasonic is crap here. I'm sorry. They didn't even bother to reply my email.

Ps. Even though I'm an MSI fanboy and love all of its products, for PSU I would definitely go for seasonic. There's no way around.
