Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on a (short-to-mid-term) GPU upgrade.

Right now, the main use of this PC is for audio recording/mixing, eventually rendering videos, and only sparingly playing games (but I do play them). So, I took advantage of the Black Friday sales and recently managed to upgrade my CPU (from a Ryzen 5 3500X to a Ryzen 7 5700X) and my PSU (from a Deepcool DA500 to a Corsair CX650F), thinking to extend the PC's longevity a little longer.

I know that now the bottleneck of my PC relies in its GPU (an Asus TUF 1650 Super OC). It still play some games, but not in a superb quality (I must give up some graphics quality to have a fluid gameplay in some titles). However, I must say I'm not a very avid gamer, and I don't play competitive or multiplayer games, prefering single player games with story mode (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Tomb Raider trilogy, Control, Horizon Dawn Zero...).

So, having all that info, which GPU would you buy for your PC, thinking about a nice graphic quality, and without needing an update for some time, without sacrifice a good cost/benefit ratio?

I thought about getting a 3060TI or a 6700XT, but don't know if they'd be overkill for what I'm looking for. And, talking about the 6700XT specifically, I got a good deal in a PowerColor Red Devil, but it's said in its official site that it requires a 700W PSU (where other 6700XT I'm seeing requires a 650W PSU), and I don't know if the CX650F would handle it satisfactorily.

Current PC Specs is right here on the left (System Specs)!

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

What's your budget for a new GPU? That is a big factor for a lot of gamers because cards are so expensive these days.

Between those two I'd go with the 3060Ti for DLSS and it should be cheaper for basically the same performance (ignoring DLSS)

For 1080p both are very good , if you dont want / need the Nvidia features (dlss , ray trace , reflex etc..) you can go for AMD. (for 1440p i would go with the nvidia , DLSS seems to work nice)

What's your budget and monitor resolution? If you think the 3060 Ti and 6700 XT are overkill, then look at the 6600 XT / 6650 XT. There are some pretty good deals on these cards, the last I checked. Don't worry about your PSU, it's fine for all of these.

Well both GPU's are going to be good options as they are very close together so I would say get whichever you can get for the cheaper price. The 6700XT is slightly ahead overall in performance (I think the average is 3%) but its not enough to make it an easy choice except if they are priced the same.

In short, get whichever you can get for the better price IMHO.

I'd say get the RTX 3060 12GB, if you get it at a sensible price, i.e. $329 or less.

In my world.....

the 3060ti and 6700xt trades blows depending on games, so I'd just grab whichever is cheaper

You have full HD monitor, the AMD is 20% faster in Forza Horizon 5
8% faster in God of War
It's slower in Guardians of the Galaxy
12% faster in Cyberpunk
7% in RDR2

From the games u play, FSR 2.0 has these titles:

AMD is 7% faster in Horizon 0
16% faster in control

Depending on the price, if your Audio Video workload can benefit from extra vram (12 vs 8gb), don't worry about PSU

To add to this a lot of people don't know that there's actually a 6700 non XT that was released late summer (6700 10gb).

I've seen it for as low as $300 which is amazing bang for your buck (if I remember correctly it was only like 2-3% slower than a $400-420 3060 TI and about 10 to 12% slower than the $360-400 6700xt)

Here's 50 games tested

Horizon Dawn Zero AMD wins significantly.
For Tomb Raider it's same. For Control Mbappé beats Messi.
I definitely like Resident Evil 3 more than Village. and prefer Forza over Flight Simulator.

So what's the price for these two cards?

It's hard to 'translate' the budget, as I live in Brazil, and everything costs more than they should here. I'd say around 3.5k Reais (around +600usd, which is the cost of a new 3060TI / 6700XT).

For my studio usage, I'm planning to jump from my 21" FHD monitor to a 27" QHD monitor, so I think a GPU that could do moderate to good graphics in 1440p will be more than enough (don't need to play with everything max'ed, but some quality helps the playing imertion).

Sensible price and Brazil can't coexist in the same phrase.

I've already watched a bunch of comparison videos, and I'm even thinking about a 6650XT now to lower a bit the budget (~500usd).

In fact, the GPU will get a bit of work when I'll render a few videos, and play games, but normally I'd be working much more with audio, and here, CPU and RAM raw power are the must important numbers.

To add to this a lot of people don't know that there's actually a 6700 non XT that was released late summer (6700 10gb).

I know about it, but never seen it here in Brazil. The 6600XT I found a bunch, the 6650XT I found some, the 6700XT another bunch. But 6700, it's only a mith here.

WOW! That list was :rockout:. Would like to see something similar for the 6650XT, but only found for the 6600XT. But it already helps!

I thought about getting a 3060TI or a 6700XT, but don't know if they'd be overkill for what I'm looking for. Your PSU is fine for either a 3060Ti or 6700XT.
In some regions the RX6700 10GB is very cheap (cheaper than an RX 6650XT, despite being faster) and it's usually the best buy in the sub-€400 category. I have one of those in the living room PC at home and it's great for upscaling many of the games you mentioned to 4K with FSR.

Nvidia will handle raytracing less badly than AMD but at this level even the 3060Ti is questionable. For games where raytracing doesn't have much of a performance impact, you'll likely need side-by-side comparison screenshots to even see the difference, and for games where raytracing is a big visual improvement, you'll be forced to take a too much of a resolution and framerate hit to make the tradeoff worth it.

DLSS works great for upscaling to 4K but if you're trying to use it to hit playable framerates at 1080p, the results are pretty terrible. When I had a 3060Ti, I needed DLSS performance to run CP2077 1440p medium RT at 60fps, and failed to stay above 60fps any time it got busy anyway. DLSS performance only renders at 720p and although this is only my opinion, I think a lot of the time it looked like a blurry mess, the rest of the time it looked worse. Raytracing fails hard if there aren't enough samples to work with in the first place, and the native 720 render resolution wasn't enough to generate meaningful results to my eyes. I've yet to see a game with raytracing that looks good enough to justify the performance hit. Unless you have GPU performance to spare, I can't honestly say that it's ever worth the drop in resolution and framerate.

I'd buy the RTX 3060 Ti if I were you.

On resolutions lower than 4K, DLSS/FSR ultra quality should be the only option to consider, although personally, I try to leave it off as much as possible.

To OP: if you want DLSS and slightly better RT, buy the 3060 Ti. If you don't, either the 6700 or 6700 XT are good options, depending on availability in your region.

Id Say the 6600 at a Minimum

I don't plan to go lower than a 6650XT / 3060, but I'm leaning towards the next tier - 6700 or 6700XT / 3060TI. If I can get a huge deal, maybe a 3070, but it gets out of my budget by a considerable margin (unless I go for the secondary market, but then, the issues are not exactly the price, but the use [or abuse] of the GPU, so I'm avoiding).

Ok grab a 6700XT or 6750/XT and call it a day.

What is an online retailer that is popular in Brazil for us to look at some prices?

I personally buy from KaBuM, Pichau or Terabyte myself

@TheOgre Pichau currently has some RTX 3060 Ti's for 2999, you should check it out. Terabyte also has a Gigabyte RTX 3080 with an external Thunderbolt dock for 4899, which is a pretty good deal if you ask me, you could probably sell the dock to make back some of the cost, good luck

If you lowered your budget to around 2650, then RX 6700 10GB on Terabyte should be the best option rn

Awesome! Maybe 3.5k (in split payments).

Amazon(BR) normally has prices a bit higher than normal (unless they're running a sale in a determinated item). So, I normally look at some other stores, just like Kabum, Pichau or TerabyteShop. There are others, but I end up looking at prices more in these three stores.

Interesting! That Sapphire wasn't there before, if I recall correctly. Even tho I prefer the Nitros, that Pulse should fits nicely in my budget!

That should be a decent card to get, packs a little more of a punch than a RX 6650 XT but it should still be slower than the 3060 Ti in general (though it's also cheaper, so there's that). There's also an AsRock Intel Arc A770 available from Pichau, which is a novelty card... should be plenty fast, but you know, Intel's a newer player in the field and you need a pretty new computer to run it. Also, may have bugs.

Oh man my poor bank account when I get around buying the 7900 XTX...

That 3080 would be oustanding, but I don't think my PSU will handle it (and I just upgraded it during the last BF), so I'm sticking with what the CX650F can support, and my wallet can pay. I think my roof is the 3070 (NVidia) or the 6700 XT (AMD), but the 3070 only in a special situation (a crazy sale).

Yeah! The 6700 goes a little bit further than the 6650 XT, and they're similarly priced. And I saw that ARC A770 (the only A770 I found being sold here), but it's the 8GB version, right? It'd be nice to get the 16GB version, but we don't see that stuff coming here in a regular basis.

I was looking for an alternative to the 6700 XT Red Devil (found at Kabum), due to its relative high power consumption, like another 6700 XT model or even a 3060 TI (the 3070 would be the best fit, but it's a bit higher in price, and I don't plan to look at ML or OLX for used ones), but maybe that 6700 Pulse will fit better in my search. I think it'll play well games at 1080p and even 1440p (I don't plan going to 4K too soon, even because 2K is more than enough to work with audio for me). My only concern with Sapphire GPUs is the shortest warranty time compared to competitors.

Dang! Are you going after a 7900 XTX, then? I don't want to go crazy, especially as I don't play that much.
