Ryzen Owners Zen Garden

My problem with Linux was the lack of a "install wizard" for programs. Sure, I can figure out how to CLI the install but I don't know that much about cmd, let alone learning the Linux shell.

They all have app-stores for that now, many of them you can search within and it automates the CLI process for stuff they didnt include/verify themselves
ubuntu has the best experience there, a looooot of vetted programs - and of course, the same as windows you can just download and double click an installer

pretty sure it looks nicer than this now, but an example of how it works

I suppose to stay on topic here, put it this way: Mint worked with an AM5 motherboard out of the box with display drivers, audio drivers and the wifi AX drivers with zero drama, while windows 11 needed an ethernet connection and windows updates

For troubleshooting, it's a fantastic backup tool to have

All the package managers decided to bust hard, wine was supposedly there but the glass was empty, and any software I downloaded for it came with CLI instructions (only) and attempting to run them did all of nothing.

I could try with Mint instead of a modified Cinnamon, but some programs that I use do not work outside of Windows, full stop. I was trying a dual boot laptop without managing to install Grub.

Yeah, that can happen

That's why i stick with just mint, it works so i don't have to worry about much - it comes with all the basics i need (if i can get on google and youtube and fix whatever thing i'm fixing, it's a good OS)
a persistent USB install with that NTFS driver is amazing for data recovery

Having fun with this remote AM5 build (chicks 500KM away from me, she's the hands, i'm the advice)

This is on a U12S, a 120mm air cooler

Now she's learning fan curves, weee

Can curves? Yeah, I’ve never experimented with that.

Hmm... Is there any reason why Ryzen Master would not have Eco Mode as an option?

She got curvy cans and curvy fans!
Why would we want eco mode, when it's working fine as is?

There are reports of PBO making things crashy crashy, we did discover that EXPO wasnt raising the DRAM voltage so we raised that and SOC manually and it seems good so far

I havent used Armory Crate for awhile now, I dont have fond memories of it. I am runnig it now and it is showing all of my cores and threads being active. Geez what a pig. But idle temps are still low so I dont think its actually working the CPU too hard? The colors it puts out are so much nicer than OpenRGB lol..

If I bought a 5v RGB cable would I be able to connect my GPU to a mobo header and control its lights like that? It really messes with my OCD that I cannot get the timing just right when I try manually :D
I don't recommend using any motherboard software for things other than RGB control. They're generally pure garbage. I'm so glad my MSi B650 board remembers its settings even without Mystic Light (or whatever it's called) installed. :)

I remember Armoury Crate and Windows Update fighting over which Intel iGPU driver to install at one point. When one updated to a certain version, the other immediately followed with a downdate (is that a word?) to a different version.

Lol I agree. After I uninstalled it I noticed the cores would never calm down, it was always doing something.. so I just wiped the install and went back to openrgb :)

Don't do that either, use openRGB instead
Very easy to un-tick all devices and only add specific ones you want, if you have conflict with "neccesary" software

Yes indeed, openRGB uses zero CPU time, its super lightweight.

unless you add in the effects plugin it only uses the hardware based options. tis glorious.

I've got an "On exit" profile setup with just my KB lighting, for night time use

Beefing up a Lanbox with some cheap parts I got from mates, and a part I got as a thankyou for sorting out a mate with PC issues too.

Came with an Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB DDR 2666 and a Ryzen 1700. The thankyou part was a 5600G! wow that a difference from the ole 1700. Threw on a Noctua CPU cooler NH-L12 that was spare since I put a Fuma 2 in my main rig, this little gaming Lanbox is very capable. Also managed to find a respectable and cheap 24" 165HZ IPS monitor. Threw the GTX1080 in and wow. What a capable little 1080p high refresh box this is, plays everything I can throw at it, and maxes refresh on esports games.

As absolutely f**cked as the new card market is, older gen/2nd hand parts I've found affordable and plentiful, certainly doesn't seem all that pricey to be a budget 1080p gamer if you're happy to buy used.

Having a reference 6750 XT at the moment with a red lit Radeon logo on it, I've set my AIO pump's RGB to constant red with no software installed to control it. I'll try OpenRGB the next time I need to change something, thanks. :)

And now I'm sitting here wondering if I should replace the default thermal compound that came with my cooler. If so, what would you guys suggest? I've heard of Kryonaut. Any ideas on that stuff?

Kryonaut is the best paste I've ever used, just too expensive, imo. Arctic MX-4 is a very close second, but much cheaper (avoid the MX-5, though). Coolermaster Master Gel Maker isn't too bad, either.

I must look into this further :D
You can creaty beauty, and also unimaginably ugly chaos

MX4 is the generic go-to, as it reliably works on everything

What cooler? How old is the paste?

That ASUS AC has so much crap it's pretty unbelievable, only took me a few minutes remove that lump of trash and did the same opted for OpenRGB too.

Like WTF why would they think people would use the trash, and those who use it need a kick in the ass haha.

One of the things i miss of the ASRock mobo's.

I only have one ASRock board, and it makes sort of cool whooshing sounds in the bios when you make a change.

Sounds in BIOS? That's something new!

New?

It’s a Z77 OCFormula :D

But yeah it’s the only board I’ve ever had that has sounds in the bios :D

It does technically have a service running for it. I have to use it for my RAM so it’s not stuck on “Rainbow Puke”at boot/restart it still defaults that until I boot into windows and the service kicks in and my colour does too. Now yes I don‘t need the program running(oddly last night because I was messing with some beta drivers and had some issue) I noticed my RAM wasn’t lit at all. So of course I fired uo the program only to find it was “broken“ now for some reason it’s grabbing it from Windows Store(not a big deal but odd)it did make fox it easy it just asked to repair it.
BUT it does leave a service running for the RGB.

One thing I hate about Aura is how it pauses whatever colour cycle you have chosen when you reboot the machine.

Hey since we are talking about RGB.. can I buy a 3 pin cable and connect my video card to my motherboard header and have it run with the board?
