PC reboots when playing Star Wars Squadrons - error 41

Hi everyone.

I just built a new PC:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-core
MAG B550 Tomahawk Max WIFI
Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon 6600
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series (2 x 16GB) RAM DDR4 3200
Kingston FURY Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch 7mm Internal SSD
ASUS 12X Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST
Cooler Master V650 Gold V2 650W

When playing Squadrons, PC will reboot during gameplay. Event viewer reports error 41 kernel power task category 63. This is consistent behavior. I don't get this error when playing Evil Dead: The Game. Newegg and Cooler Master power calculator estimated that I would need a 400-499w PSU, so my 650w PSU should be fine.

Troubleshooting I've tried:
1. If I adjust video card power settings to "power savings mode", this cuts down restart frequency but does not eliminate the issue.
2. I tried a new video card, same model, but the issue persists.
3. I tried Feb 14th AMD video driver updates, but the issues persists
4. I tried a Cooler Master V750 Gold V2 but the issue persists.
5. I used OCCT to run power and video tests but no errors were reported.
6. Using OCCT monitor when running Squadrons, CPU and GPU power consumption were less than when running power and video tests

This suggests to me that it's a spike from GPU that is causing the issue. From what I've read, both AMD RX 6XXX and nVidia RTX 3XXX series cards spike up higher than previous card which causes problems for some older PSUs.

Things to try:
1. nVidia card in the case there is an AMD specific issue
2. Older generation card to see if they maybe don't spike
3. Newer generation card but different model
4. Newer PSU

I doubt an nVidia card would solve the problem. An older card might do the trick but leaves me stuck using another card. If it really is spikes causing the issue, I'd get the same issue with other newer generation card. So, I'm thinking a newer PSU would be the route I should try first. Maybe a Thermalake GF3 750?

What are your thoughts?

I'm thinking a newer PSU would be the route I should try first.
You already tried a second and bigger PSU.
This suggests to me that it's a spike from GPU that is causing the issue.
I would suspect heat first - but sadly you told us nothing about your temps, CPU cooling, or the case and its cooling.

The Wraith cooler that comes with that CPU should be sufficient "IF" mounted properly. What did you use for TIM (thermal interface material) and how did you apply it.

What case are you using and what does it have for case fans and how are they configured? The typically configuration provides a front-to-back flow of cool air through the case. Then the CPU cooler need only toss the CPU's heat into that flow.

What are your temps? I use and recommend Core Temp to monitor CPU temps in real time. Under Options > Settings > Notification Area, I have mine set to display "Highest temperature" only.

Are you sure it's the GPU? Check event viewer for WHEA errors in addition to errors 41.

first of all are you plugged into the wall or using an extention cord?

restore your bios "cmos clear" take out the ram and swap them around go into your bios and set the xmp or docp for the ram to the 3200 setting and save and exit see if this fixes it failing that loosen your cpu cooler a smidge n nip it back up but not as tight bad pressure can do weird things to a cpu and resulting in system issues

Can you try putting your RX 6600 in your mobo's other GPU slot? Your GPU will of course run slower, but if it doesn't crash & reboot, it might mean that the main slot is defective somehow. Also try to see if there are any WHEA-Logger type of errors in the Event Viewer, it should read something like this:
A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 8

The details view of this entry contains further information.
(Also, Error 41 merely means the computer isn't shut down properly, as is the case when your PC restarts by itself as you described.)

Hey guys, I know it's been forever, but I wanted to thank all of you who responded and gave me advice!

For those who want the story, here it is:

I played Callisto Protocol to try what should be a game as demanding or more than Squadrons. No crash for the 90 minutes I played. But, played Friday the 13 puzzle game and got a crash. That obviously shouldn't be putting stress on the system. Confusing!
BIOS update in March. Played Squadrons for 2 hours one night, no crash! Played again and got a crash within 30 minutes. So much for that being the solution.
I checked event viewer for WHEA errors, like suggested. I searched for the WHEA error that corresponded to the 41 error and found some suggestions: Turn off Precision Boost Overdrive and AMD CBS. After doing that, I played through Squadrons, played some Mordhau, played 35 hours of Battlestar Galactica Deadlock...no crashes. I'm pretty confident that I'm good now. I'd like to turn those back on at some point but not much motivation to do that. I'm happy with performance, so why bother and risk crashes?

Was it kernel41?

If it is, that is relating to your power source and power supply

It was pointing at the psu isnt able to handle pbo/cbs. So in this instance dont turn it back on unless if you get something better

As previously mentioned, current power supply is way more than enough and is hooked up to same outlet as previous PC. Worked with OCCT developer and power was just fine. No crashing after disabling Precision Boost Overdrive and AMD CBS.
