It only has 1 M.2 slot. can not find this layout in any amd papers. talked to Newegg and they told me sometomes it's on the back. what a load that was. does anyone now about pre release having 1 m.2? the 1 it has is next to pcie-1. HELP. want to use Ryzen 7 5700g. not sure if this board will bios correctly.

Find the motherboard manual in your language on asus.com and read it

And go on asus.com to find the cpu support list for that motherboard

B550-4?

You sure that 4 wasn't an A, or an F?

The -A and -F have their m.2 under the long heat spreading cover by the chipset, not on the back...

Edit:
Here ya go

As inoffensively as possible: RTFM

Also, check out your board's CPU support list

Ryzen 7 5700G (3.8GHz,45-65W,L3:16M,8C)ALL1401
Your board is compatible with the 5700G, as long as it's on 1401 or newer firmware.

pay attention to what you lose going to a monolithic APU; less and lower speed PCIe lanes come to mind.

thank you for the responses. alot of info for me to work with. I put the correct board name in the title. Rog strix B550-F Gaming. my point is there is no, repeat NO M.2 slot along header edge! the board is missing the M.2 heat spreader for the one it has.. there are not even the mounting holes for a 2nd M.2. how could this board get past inspection??
about it being on the back, some idiot told me they sometimes are located on the back of the board.

Take a picture of the board

^+1, take a picture of the board. Something isn't right.
Sounds like whoever had it lost the heat spreader and possibly damaged the board (or it got damaged/lost somehow anyway).

I remember I bought this board and returned it as soon as I installed it. It looks flexible but since all of the PCie slots share lanes (not the first one) there is one glaring issue. If you want or need WIFI and use a PCIe WIFI adapter all the rest of those lanes run at x1. The other M2 is also wired so guess what? No capture card for you if you install a 2nd M2 and all of those slots are effected. Asus did do a revision that comes with WIFI but it is definitely one of the worst wired AM4 boards. Funnily enough it is also one of the best selling but there are better B550 boards for less money than this. I think some of the SATA ports are also connected to PCIe as well. It looks cool but too bad it is truly Strix in name only.

will send pic. also looking closer at board and box, south bridge isnt as fancy as the box , also no giant heat speader by input-output plate. also has 3 x pcie 16. and no ROG pink/red coloring.
I think this board is a poor copy.

The image will save you 1000 words

The picture in post number 6 is not of a Strix -F. It is a good, basic board. It was my first AM4 board and is running in my sons system.

That picture is of the Gaming Wi-Fi II. an updated version that came out about 18 months ago.. somewhere around there.

thanks, that is actually the picture on my box also.
additionally- mine only has 6 caps in the audio section. vs 8 caps in the picture

What you're descriptions imply is that the board in your box, is not the board you're asking about here. (Asus B550-F)

we need a pic of your actual board.

I believe this motherboard has the same configuration for storage as the B550-E I had before. If this is correct, top M.2 slot is capable of Gen 4 x4*, and bottom one is Gen 3 x4 - using both simultaneously knocks out two of the SATA ports, so if you have all SATA ports used, you cannot use the bottom M.2 slot. This is because the B550 chipset doesn't have enough bandwidth.

Gen 4 NVMe is only supported on the top slot if you are using a Matisse (3000) or Vermeer (5000) processor. Renoir (4000G) and Cezanne (5000G) are not Gen 4 capable, so this slot will be limited to Gen 3 and available bandwidth may be further reduced if the integrated graphics are enabled and discrete graphics or lots of PCIe expansion cards are installed.

Otherwise, B550-F's only other differences are that it does not come with a Wi-Fi module standard (unless you buy the Wi-Fi variant of the -F II refresh), significantly weaker VRM and absence of debug code reader, the area where it's located on the model F is vacant.

If your motherboard does not have two slots, then it is not a B550-F.

solved- asus rog strix B350-F in B550-F box. with 550 sticker and install disc.
thank you for your help. I only joined this forum to solve this. but seeing how active you all are, I will use your knowledge going forward.
question- is this board worth my time??
current-asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 been a good board for a very long time.

Sorry to hear, but glad you've sorted it out at least, hope you can return it and get your money back.

Sure looks like it to me unless I'm missing something; this is the product page for ROG Strix B550-F:

Yes I am sure, a Strix -F will say it’s a Strix -F, not a Gaming WiFi II. Besides, I have a Strix -F and Strix -XE :D

Unless you can negotiate a 70% refund and can live with the B350-F's limitations, action buyer protection and send it back.

He didnt get what he paid for, send it back
