CPU rises up to 85-95 on 144hz while before it was 68-73

I got this laptop for about 2 months now and a while back I tried to undervolt my cpu usuing throttlestop and instead of lowering the tempt it raised to 90-100 and I took it for repair and ended up resetting it and updated the bios and now everything seems better then it was before. But the problem is right now on overwatch 2 (where I saw the other tempt rising and is my point of reference) on 60hz is 60-70 without turbo

But on 144hz it goes up to 85 even with turbo on and it just because of the hz and if I put it on 16:10 it will go to 95 so I wanted to know what is the problem and how to fix it.


ps: before the whole problem I used to play every game even overwatch on the highest settings possible

How about thermal compound, room temperature.

If unit has fans clean them

well game updates, driver updates can make things not the same as before.

try hard limit of 120 fps with rivatuner/msi ab and on driver settings see if helps

Make sure intake and exhaust vents are clean and blow fans out. When you got laptop used it's possible the thermalpaste wasn't changed on it, or was a cheap paste/not applied correctly.

So I should apply a new thermal paste on it?!

You can try that, make sure to use good paste

Get the model number from the back of the unit so that way you might be able to find a video on how to do it.

Also you may want to get in reach with @unclewebb for throttlestop

Good luck, also if your room is hot, blowing hot air on hot components just makes them hotter.

Yeah about the model, it’s incredibly tough to find anything like that about it, I was thinking about going to the place I bought it and ask them to check it out just to be sure

Thats your safest bet, insist they do the changes infront of you, good paste is arctic mx4 mx6,

I will tell you this now laptops aint like they were in 2004, they had thick fans and heatsinks, were able to run p4 prescotts without overheating and played UT 2003/2004 at 1920x1200 on a 15 inch screen. I would blow dust out of the fan grilles every other month (general maintenance)

Depends on the clearance aswell,

Anywhere paste fits, that pad will too - it's the high end 'stock' thermal paste that applies as a pad for a perfectly even application, and it's got raving reviews for laptop use


True thermal pads are thicker and for specific tasks, this ones for CPU and GPU use to last a long time, where thermal pastes are runny and pump out/dry out (same thing, different name)

Nothing about the GPU tempt has changed

That's a big clue that the issue is CPU cooling related then, either it's paste has dried up or it's been clogged with dust

Both require opening the system up to clean properly, so order a thermal paste/pad before doing so

I thought about that too but obviously when I messed with the system I feared it was software related cuz I never heard cpu thermal paste to degrade so much in only 1 day and for the fan i checked it it’s clean
