Baldur's Gate 3

Bring it on! I waited on this one...

No, saving the whole package for when its done.
it's good, like really good. They did a nice job of blending bioware quality characters & story telling with a "larain" take on D&D combat. It's not the same as Divinity Original Sin combat but definitely influenced by it.

This game has an update 30.6GB. ..Hopfully this will fix the Vulkan API crashes, currently downloading.

FYI, PC launch date moved up four weeks

Yeah was reading this on steam not to long ago.

There’s a lot more where that came from, but this is already going to be a long one. We’ve been busy. We’ve grown, and so too has Baldur’s Gate 3. Let’s get into a little detail about what you can expect to see in the Panel From Hell: Release Showcase, just in time for the release of the game
on August 3rd for PC, and September 6th for PS5
.

YOU READ THAT RIGHT

We will be releasing the game in order of platform readiness. Baldur’s Gate 3 will first come to PC on
August 3rd
, before launching on PlayStation 5 a few weeks later on
September 6th
.

Boulders Gate 3 has a special love scene that will definitely get all the rage by gaming "journalists".

I do wonder if the game is actually good. I do like these type of RPG games. Classic style isometric rpgs are still fun and did enjoy Divinity OS 2.

Well it's out today on steam with a whopping 55.5GB update. Wonder if they changed much between beta and release versions

From what I've read and understood, you have to completely download and install the official version. You cannot update the pre-official release version with the official version and also that saves from the pre-release version do not work on the official version. At least that was my take from what I skimmed over the past couple days - I don't own a copy of the game yet so I cannot confirm nor deny that this is true since I don't really care because it doesn't impact me.

Well it looks really nice, and plays pretty well too. I will try the retail version tonight

I can confirm that you have to re-download the game if you had the early access version. Booted up steam today and had a 23.8 GB update followed by an 86GB update.

I haven't read any reviews of this game (now in full release) however I'm guessing that the reviews will be all over the board based on the individual reviewer's idea of what the game should be.

For D&D this is important since today's videogame titles have widely departed from the tabletop RPG of the late Seventies.

As for downloading the game, the developer had very specific advice (via corporate Twitter/X account) to delete early access saves in game (to wipe from cloud servers) and then to exit the game and delete the early access copy. They mentioned that the early access data might cause problems. Which mean it probably will cause problems if the developer themselves are suggesting this course of action.

All of the major gaming news sites covered this in detail over the past few days (since the advice was tweeted).

The game is now being streamed at Twitch (et al) but when I last looked most streamers were in the character creation screens since even with a fast connection, it takes a while to download the 122+ GB title.

Oh it definitely causes issues. Game won't launch for me so I'm having to wipe the files / settings and download the whole 125GB from scratch. For a game this size it should not be difficult for them to clean out early access files that cause issues on first launch.

Just tried it on mine. Ran through the setup quickly and got into game. runs as well as it did before. 3440x1440 all high runs very nice.

Did not do any of the very specific advice, and had no problems.

I feel a bit left out on this release. I honestly never played BG 1 and 2, I tried the Enhanced Edition's recently, but just couldn't get into it. All the hype though for this one has me feeling missing out though. Dangit.

Is 122 GB the download size or the install size?

I got it on GOG; I think it was a 108GB download. I had a family member start the download while I was at work, so it'd be ready for me when I got home.

Aside from some Vulkan-related crashes (I've switched to DX11 until they get fixed), it runs fine on my PC. Max settings at 3440x1440 gets between 70 and 100 FPS.

I am enjoying finding the little details that changed between early access and now.

This has definitely been the first cRPG to really grab my interest, as I'm more of an action RPG person.

Divinity Original Sin 2 sort of did, but not to this same extent.

pillars of eternity was my first cRPG, but I didn't particularly like the combat mechanics in it. I don't think this is my genre honestly, I want to love it, but I just can't seem to.

What is benefit of games using Vulkan btw? Just curious why you are looking forward to that.

To be perfectly honest, aside from support on multiple platforms, I'm not sure.

One thing that DX12 and Vulkan brought with them was having to wait for shader compilation. So DX11 is superior in that one specific case.
