Idle chipset temps are 65-72C for X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

My idle chipset temps are 65-72C for my X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, but these tend to be the highest temps the chipset reaches since under load the GPU fans right next to it cool it down (as it has a zero-rpm mode). I understand that it is passively cooled, but is this range normal/expected for idle-light browsing, or do I need to make some adjustments?

I'm on the latest bios + chipset drivers

Case: Meshify 2 with 4x140mm fans intake, 1x140mm fan + 360mm rad exhaust

Mobo: X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

CPU: 5800x3d

GPU: EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080ti

I believe 70c is normal for that chipset. Anyone know the max temp value?

Thanks for the reassurance! Yeah the chipset temps plateau around 70C when idle or light browsing, was just worried I wasn't doing enough to compensate. I've read on online that they can run up to 90C safely, but all the answers I saw varied greatly and gave different recommendations.

You don't need to "compensate". The engineers who designed these boards know what they're doing. Don't borrow trouble.

Let's not be so sure about ASUS engineers here.

It ain't about the temps, but the small whiner FAN. If it doesn't bother you then ignore.

There's nothing to worry about as long as it's spec, which it is. X570 is one of a kind.

That said, a passive board like the Dark Hero relies heavily on the airflow that YOU can provide in absence of its own fan. If your case airflow is ass, then you know what to expect.

As to spec, people throw around values between 90-105C max, but I don't think I've ever seen an official document providing a temp spec.

Mine is sitting at 40c right now.

I've seen 42 C on my X570 Aorus Elite. The only time fan kicked in was with Gigabyte fan software somehow triggering it after loading profiles.

There's no point epeen measuring who got what temperatures.

It depends on SATA and M.2 peripheral amount that works via that PCH. Also Knowing it is Shitsus... they have their heatsink build like a joke there.

As compared to who? Think Gigabyte is your buddy, or maybe MSI? Doubtful.

ASUS is special, and I mean it and have my solid ground doing claims like that.

I can give a public example how does a heatsink look on my board exactly. They could have put at least a heatpipe there for a 300€ board.

Mine on my Asus Strix X570f-Gaming sits at 58c at idle and might make it to 67 if I'm hitting the second NVMe ssd or doing a large download at high speeds but otherwise it's just not getting near 70 or above. I'd be checking to make sure the thermal compound or thermal pad is still good as they're not using a fan to cool

so Crosshair VIII Dark Hero employs passive chipset cooling with large VRM and chipset heatsinks

At least they only mildly rip you off, as opposed to ASUS that rips you off by bending your wallet over and going to town.

But the other guys have more costlier boards?

But their more costly boards generally offer extra features to justify that cost. ASUS offers... RGB.

You forgot the bragging RoG rights and stickers. Those suckers cant even fix their BIOS if you open up a ticket.

I am a total liar.

I was in bed when I made that post lol.. must have been thinking of B550..

With my case fans running at full tilt and a 20c ambient, its sitting at 47c.. when I checked on it while getting ready for my day, I saw it was at 58c with the fans at their slowest lol.

Sorry :)

Haters gonna hate I guess.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Considering we have such a difference in temps with the same board, maybe something is indeed off? You have multiple bottom intake fans in your build so I imagine that helps a lot.

Should I consider replacing the thermal pad? Others have said I am running within spec. I'm running 2 4th gen m.2s and a sata fan controller so I imagine that stresses the pch quite a bit.

As this chipset is passively cooled, what I meant by "compensate" was running a more aggressive case fan curve.

I'm happy as long as I am in spec, just was not sure considering all of the numbers thrown around.

My case fans are only running at 30% when idle, so maybe running a more aggressive case fan curve like yours is the answer? Or do you always just leave them at 100%?
