Looking at the images for the PCB...........the 6900XT looks exactly the same. So would a waterblock made for the 6900xt fit the 6950xt?

The PCB model and rev # (AG2006 Rev. 1.1) are the same between those two so I would lean towards yes.

I would agree looking at them both side by side I can't see any glaring differences that would make it not possible.

These PCBs are not the same on partner cards are they?

I have an XFX Speedster Merc319 6950xt and am trying to find a watercooler block for it.

My XFX 6900XT is a Biski block. Good but get extra 1mm pads for better memory chip coverage. I was thinking of getting the Asrock 6950XT Formula some time ago and asked them whether a 6900XT waterblock would fit and they confirmed it for that product. Never ended going that way but maybe that helps.

Some PCBs are designed by the GPU maker and have AIB coolers. These are "Reference" PCBs.

Others are designed by AIB makers from the ground up around the die. These are "Custom" PCBs.

Currently, AMD's "MBA" first-party cards use the Reference PCB, in contrast to Nvidia's "Founder's Edition" cards which use a custom PCB.

Waterblocks are of course not compatible with different PCB layouts, but it is often unclear which cards use the Reference layout. Typically smaller AIBs and cheaper product lines of larger AIBs use this layout but that is merely a rule of thumb.

There should be no difference in the PCB, assuming the AIB and product line are the same.

Ideally if you can find a review and compare the PCB with the MBA card, you should be able to tell if it is reference. If it isn't, you are looking for a waterblock specific to the card.

Watch out. XFX Core and Black Editions are different PCBs. Make sure the PCB picture is the same as your version. Alternatively you can take the cooler off and find out yourself. Just will need a new set of thermal pads. XFX tends to use the ones that crumble if removed.

Only if it is a waterblock made for this direct model, not for the reference card - this one looks like a Asrock Formula iirc.
