They traditionally don't squish well enough and 0.5/1.0 mm should be bought, it's likely 0.5 though.

But too thick has caused a few people issues they came here for because 8 memory pads and 4/12 Vram pads can lift the Heatsink off your GPU.

I've done this fitting a water block wrong and advised to repair this issue three times for others.

Just had confirmation that they are 1.2MM from a user who took his apart and measured.

Normally you could probably use 1.5mm pads and get away with it, but not on this GPU. With it having chiplets (I assume anyway) 1.5mm pads will not work. Your GPU hotspot will peg at 110° long before you reach max clock/performance.

Kritical did sell 1.25mm pads, but I haven't found anyone else who does. All kritical pads are sold out on Amazon at the time of writing with the listings saying it may or may not be restocked. I had success stacking 0.5mm pads with a small dab of thermal paste directly on the vram chips to accomplish the 1.2mm and it greatly reduced my vram temps (even though they were quite good before hand). Just an FYI to anyone who sees this thread. I tried 1.5mm pads and had terrible results as did another user on the overclockers UK forum. I used Kritical 0.5mm pads as well.

Does anyone know how to enable the RGB lighting on the card? Do I need a special software from Sapphire? There's a RGB header but that doesn't seem to plug into anything on my MB.

Use the RGB software that comes with the MB. It should be able to detect the GPU through the PCIe slot. The header is a regular 3 pin ARGB. You might need to use a splitter.

Trixx just needs to be set once and the card should stick to whatever you set it at without Trixx running, I reckon.

That is correct Trixx is a set and forget software you install it run it set what you want then uninstall it

you should also be able to access it through Widows own Dynamic lighting control but for some reason you can't
 
Inspired by another post, I'd like to know what the thickness of memory pads are, or what would people suggest. I don't want to risk compromising cooling performance by putting in something that's not supposed to be there.

If you don't want to worry about thickness and potential issues it would bring, you can use thermal putty instead of pads and it should work perfectly.

That's what I intend to do, but at the same time, it's nice to have an idea so you don't waste too much of the stuff.

Trixx 9.8.1 can be run as portable executable, so no installation required. Just run once and forget it.

In 2022.12 I remember watching this TPU review of Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XTX Nitro+ and thought what an expensive GPU with excessive power draw, not for me. Ended up buying 7800XT later on. Then fast forward to 2025 and I am really into LLMs/AI and suddenly 7900 XTX is really attractive GPU. In fact best consumer GPU for LLMs AMD has to offer and probably best bang for buck overall atm. So I ended up getting one. Ofc with max -10% power limit (wish it would go down more), undervolt, heavy GPU underclock, but VRAM OC and I'm very happy with it.
AMD should really make some LLM inferencing power profiles.
 
With RDNA2 upwards it already cuts the power usage down. No need to touch the power limit slider.
Yeah, biggest power benefit came from limiting boost clock to 2.2 Ghz, some additional watts form undervolting. Tweaking got me from 339W at default setting to 226W when running Gemma3:27B at almost identical performance at 34 tps (tokens/s).
