Currently I have DDR4 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz CL16. https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Vengeance-3200MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B07D1XCKWW/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2CK84VGIBKNBS&keywords=corsair+vengeance+ddr4&qid=1692528520&sprefix=corsair+ven,aps,97&sr=8-7&th=1. Should I get 2 more sticks and call it a day. Or just get 2x16gb 3600mhz CL18 instead. https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-Trident-PC4-28800-CL18-22-22-42-F4-3600C18D-32GTZR/dp/B08176KLZT/ref=sr_1_14?crid=2CGVKCS3A1TJO&keywords=ddr4+ram+32gb+3600mhz+rgb&qid=1692528790&sprefix=ddr4+ram+32gb+rgb,aps,81&sr=8-14 . I only use the XMP profile on the ram. Use 4 slots of 8gb 3200mhz cl16 ram or 2 slots of 16gb of cl18 3600mhz? For now my max is 32gb of ram probably will never go higher on this setup. Which should I do or maybe another direction? Oh the ram must be ARGB only.

Well the vengeance is overpriced. 2x8GB RGB kits are only about $35 and that one is $54, so I wouldn't do that on principle. Nothing wrong with the tridents you picked out, but there are other similar mediocre bin Micron E RGB in that price range so take your pick of what style you like.

I bought these yesterday for my son:

In less you're planning on selling the kit you have now, I would just buy another set of the Corsair Vengeance and call it a day. Also, more RGB is always good!

Pay the 15 bucks extra and get 4 dimms. Dual Rank is always worth the performance increase for a couple dollars.

If I bought another Ram kit I would definitely sell my current ones. Ideally I want 2x16gb 3600mhz CL16 but that is way too much. I'm not even sure if I can overclock my current and make it run @3600mhz at CL16.

But I think for the gains, the price of the 3600 kit is not worth it. I would just get another kit of the 3200 that he has now.

@Lost_Troll by now you probably heard about not mixing memory kits due to potential compatibility issues. Which is 100% true and that stems from different voltages different frequencies and different memory ICs being used (different timings / sub-timings).

So for argument sake say you found another kit that's identical and your going for 4x8GB. With a Ryzen 5xxx CPU, 4x Single Rank at DDR4-3600 is doable. Though, 3600 is the tipping point for plug and play. Certainly isn't going to be if you have 4X dual-rank (4x16).

If you skipped all that... the answer is IF you have a matching identical memory 3200, it is going to work just fine. Above that, your mileage may vary.

Corsair Vengeance also seems the sketchiest for compatibility with Ryzen and also for random IC shuffling.

Thank you

The answer isn't going to change.
Yeah I'm probably going with an upgrade will get 2x16gb 3600mhz CL18. I will wait till Prime 2.0 in October or wait till the Holidays to purchase which ever has the better price. Just don't know the brand yet till time of purchase. Definitely not going with Corsair again.

get 3600.18 for cheap and don't bother yourself... or even plain 3200.22 greenies just 2x16...
maybe check QVL for better comp.

you need more ram?
of course lol. 2*8 is today internet pc or gaming old games and closing stuff before game lol. just like 10 y ago lmfao.

Sorry no greenies for this build.

Another dumb question can I simple overclock my current ram to 3600mhz speeds and still keep it at CL16 timings. Never have overclocked ram. I do have a Asus ROG Strix B550 f gaming motherboard. I see their is tons of overclock options but I have only turned on the DOCP profile.

It's possible. Micron E, which I assume yours are since the timings look like that, varies a lot as far as clocking ability. I've had 3200CL16 sticks of micron E that just don't overclock at all, and I have some that can run at 4533+. You won't know until you try, but it's definitely worth trying. Give them more voltage and see what they can do.

Ok not sure were to start. I'll start small 3200 to 3600mhz similar timing.

yes you can. But some games are more sensitive than AIDA64 and windows for ram tweaking, like my loving game hitman 3. I can EZ do my 3600.17 to 3600.16 and tighten some other timings, or do 1st 3733.19 to 3733.17 but f**kingly randomly the game will crash whenever AIDA64 will show a good ram boost lmfao. So I don't give a ... for "RAM OC" and I am now into "get the RAM in QVL most high freq & tight timings, but remember the cost will be more than increased speed vs cheaper ram lol". I've tried in Intel or Ryzen B-dies, Hynix-es, Microns and other stuff, 3200.14/4000.16/4266 etc. The difference is in AIDA64, not the games or actual home workload you ACTUALLY SEE.

@amd64skater
QVL is nothing but a list of what board makers TESTED, not a guarantee in any form that it will run (perfect) on yours,
especially when mixing/4 sticks.

also: excluding corsair for no reason, isnt making much sense, as all 3600C14/4000CL20 (or better) kits, run b-die (or similar chips).

using XMP/DOCP on ryzen isnt a good idea, your better off doing manual settings (clock/timing/voltages).
sweet spot would be 3600C16, and short of some stuff like MS flight sim, you will probably be gpu/vram limited, before 16gb vs 32 will be noticeable.

if you really must, 2 sticks 3600C16 or 14 if cheap, or any +4000 or faster kits.

i limited selection to 32gb kit CL14-16.

Yeah it looks like I will be getting a 2x16gb 3600mhz CL18. But if cheap enough I will get that same in a CL16 but the price needs to drop a little. Also not even sure on how to start to manually set my ram. I tried it once a couple of days ago and had to pull the cmos battery.

? 65$ isnt bad for C16, but i would prefer the LPX for 85$, usually nice dies allowing for a bit of tweaking (some like clocks, others timing, without added V).

start by increasing dram Vol to xmp spec, same for soc, reboot.
adjust ram clock to 3600, set mem=bclk/1:1, reboot.
set main timings manual e.g. 16-16-16-32-48/1T, reboot.
use HCI (dos mode, or TM5/HCI under win, i say HCI is easier to use.
run 24h/till 1600% to see if thats stable, then start tweaking secondary timings (incl RFC) and retest.

Well after much research, help from everyone and some advice. I already went kind of budget with my RAM the first time for this build getting a 2x8gb CL16 3200mhz kit. It is not bad but I know my system can be better and with gaming 16GB is just not enough. I am just going to go ahead and get a pair of CL16 3600mhz 2x16gb kit. This is the one I was looking at. The RGB is a must non RGB or greenies is out of the question for this purchase. Hopefully this is a great kit. Now I am open to some other options if anyone can suggest any. Also I will only buy from Amazon or Newegg.
