Optimum Tech just blew my mind. I want to do this so badly... lmao

he drops temps temps by 8-10 Celsius by creating airflow vents, I actually had this idea a long time ago, but I just wasn't smart enough, and still am not smart enough to pull it off, A) I don't have that 3d printer B) I would mess something up in the measurements, lol

I'm too poor for a 3D printer, but when I wanted a simple fan converter last year I used the free version of Fusion 360 and someone was kind enough to print it for me.
92mm CPU Fan Replacement Project | Electronics Repair And Technology News 92mm CPU Fan Replacement Project (jestineyong.com)
There are places out there where you can send your design for printing.

I think the guy helping me was disapointed I didn't have a 3D design.

I'm concerned that channeling might leave components like the VRMs without adequate cooling.

Now count the number of hours Optimum Tech put in and I doubt you would be happy with the resulting cost if you had someone do this for you.

P.S. there are a lot of people here MUCH more skilled and experianced than myself.

That's pretty cool. Might try that on my Cosmos RS1000 someday, along with custom wiring shrouds.

A) I don't have that 3d printer
Nowadays printers are cheap, and even if you don't want to invest $300-400 into a cheap 3D Printer, you can pay for someone to print your parts or order it at the print farm.
Just building a 3D printer on the lowest possible budget is an adventure on its own. I think my first MK3 clone ended up a tad over $200 (actually less, cause some parts were freebies or scavenged in my workshop).

I think it needs more thought, you going to filter the rear of the case under the card as the other fan has to get air from some were.

EDIT..
Well i guess he did extend it, good. i watched about 1/2 way though yesterday i guess that's what happens haha.

This stuff used to be common has hell you used to be able buy these kind of things way back, might still be able too. Does have me wounder if it would make much or any difference with my case.

I never thought about this... good point, yeah more testing would be needed. VRM cooling is probably only an issue in an overclocked scenario on a lower end motherboard with this kind of setup though, but yeah I am unsure.

So he "fixed" a case with bad airflow.
I just ran superposition with my OC'ed 4090 windforce, fan profile stock but core maxes at 3.1ghz and voltage peaked at 1.1v.
Powerlimit increased to max which is only 106% but it was still running around 460 to 480 watts.
Peaked at 68, i ran the test twice.

His setup also forgets SSD and ram cooling

Yeah could be a issue for some one with nvme drives, like my self.

He still has one un-ducted exhaust fan pulling out so there's some airflow in the box, but very curious to see how the other sensors in the system does.

Dell has been using ducting for years to try to engineer around bad airflow (if you remove the ducting in the precision workstation/alienware rigs your temps actually get worse if you can believe it), and is the opposite school of thought to the enthusiast wind tunnel approach.

Sorry, I mean't nvme drives.

His title is very misleading, I have a Core X5 and a P8 chassis.
Ducts would be pointless in both, so how has he fixed "PC" cooling..

To Freeagent's comment below, I agree.
I had a Haf-X that came with a duct designed to move air over the back of the GPU.
I tried it with a few different fans, it made no difference.

Ducting is great in scenarios that have poor airflow, either from a weak case or weak fans.

Just wanted to express similar thoughts. Ducted fans aren't anything new really. It's common stuff in workstations, servers for decades. He basically discovered a hot water. Props for the effort though.

it's true this is very specific to certain cases... the more I look at my NZXT H710 case (which is giant) I don't think venting would do anything for me honestly. simply because my case is already so big I am bordering on it being open air.

part of the cool aspect though of what optimum tech is doing though is that you can do this with any case that could use it, with the advent of 3d printers and such, which is neat.

that being said, i am pretty sure he would get similar temps by measuring cardboard cutouts, painting the carboard, gluing it, and doing this same test. i might be wrong but eh

I used to run big cases.. for big cases you need big fans :D

There was a really cheap Cooler Master case that came with a very flimsy transparent plastic funnel, and it did reduce temperature by quite a bit iirc. Around 2010 I think.

This video annoyed the hell out of me. Throw those components in a case with decent airflow and you’ll probably see ~10* gains. As others have mentioned, ducting has been common for decades. Would’ve been more interesting to see him duct around the case’s negative pressure design.
