PTM7950 on Delidded i7 8700

Out of boredom I decided to de-lid the family computer 8700 (non K) and replace the IHS paste. Instead of paste I decided to use some of my PTM7950 phase change material. So far so good and it will only get better after the first few days of heat cycles. I didn't do any proper logging or screenshots but before replacement It was hitting 88c max on a core or two, now after the change it maxed out at 77c and after a few burn in cycles it's down to maxing out in the low 70's. Really nice stuff if you guys haven't tried this stuff before. FWIW I bought the Amazon PTM7950 which is unknown whether it's real Honeywell branded or not but it appears to be the real deal in my limited testing. I plan to do my GPU as well once I get my thermal putty shipment in from aliexpress.

PTM7950 is good, I used some on my 3090 and it dropped about 12°C and now lets it hold boost much better, its really awful to apply the stuff though

Did you do any thermal putty as well? I plan to do my GPU with PTM7950 and Upsiren U6 Pro putty once it comes in the mail. Where did you get your PTM7950 from?

Just keep in mind putty is a pain to clean up cos it turns to clay i believe.

Agreed but hoping it has some decent longevity, plan on doing the ptm7950 and putty and pretty much never having to open it up again. It's also non conductive and you don't have to worry about getting the right thickness in pads. Just make some little play-doh snakes or balls and it squishes down to the perfect thickness.

Snarks Domain on youtube has a ton of videos on thermal putty, shims, pads, etc. It's a good watch if you're into that sort of thing.

Not tried any thermal putty as my card didn't have it originally but I've seen it on the 20 series FE cards, is it any good.
I got my PTM from moddiy

It doe's not matter that much even if it breaks up. Here I tested 7950 rolled it into a ball, placed it in the center of the GPU die. It will spread out just like normal paste giving even lower temperature. Removing the cold plate shows most of the 7950 is pushed over the side of the GPU die & little is on the die itself. Be aware my GPU's have very high mounting pressure "modded".

But we have a new contender. I've yet to open the package.

Paste variant is worse then pad variant i believe you want the pad vision.

Yeah, you need to use the .2mm sheet on a GPU. The paste isn't the same stuff.

I have both Honeywell products. I like conducting my own experiments, so the PTM-7958 will be tested in audio amplifier. This is where & hope this product will shine.
