Starfield discussion thread

^ Same on console, XBX could double as a space heater while playing this.

Did anyone else have a bear of time with the Mark I spacesuit glitch?
I went back to The Lodge and was trying to get a pixel on it for a while last night with no luck.

yeah I was able to get the Mark I suit this way, but, I say don't bother with it. at level 10 or even 9 as long as you got a good weapon and are smart with combat you can do the Mantis mission (it drops randomly from any random pirate) because Mark I gets replaced by gear you get at Mantis. at the end of Mantis you can save your game, open the final loot chest of Mantis, it will generate some gear, if the specific legendary bonus gear is not to your liking, just reload your save, and it will generate different gear, I did that until I got stats I wanted.

Sentinel is OP as fuck. :D

It also depends on the resolution -- 3440x1440 is noticeably cooler and the card only draws about 280W, than 4k on the 4090. But yeah 4k 100-130FPS is a a bit of a power hog measured for fun just now peak CPU is 122W (~100W average on 13700K) and 375W on an 85%PW limit w/ OC 4090 - so totalling 500W of power in intense firefights, that could easily be 650-700 on an overclocked 13900K and uncapped 4090 system. o_O
well, as i mentioned i play usually @1620p (2880x1620) but i am surprised to see that starfield like my system that much  (Todd was wrong ... i do not need to upgrade, good news since Steg and Techmania, the 2 online site owned by the same retailer got "terminated" 2 days ago and these where the site where i had wishlist with tentatively priced 5800X3D and a RX 6900 XT ... i wonder if they will be able to resolve their funding issues ... i really hope so, Steg had a local shop near me and i knew all the staff there ... )

well after playing a bit with the settings ... i have no qualms running ultra (custom technically but all the rest is on ultra if it can be set so) 50% RRS and 100% sharpening FSR2, it might just be me but i get 20ish fps more (60 Vsync with rare dips in the low 40s) and surprisingly not a big hit in image quality (only turret laser pointer get funky sometime  ) shimering is not that much present, and as i mentioned i can easily ignore it if i don't focus on it.

Just a question since I already have Star Citizen but how does this Game (Starfield) differ vs that and other offerings in the space sim space?

Starfield isn't a space sim, it's a space themed RPG.

It's in no way, shape, or form anything like a space sim, or even a space action game. You can fly around in a spaceship (arcade style), but you can't actualyl go anywhere in a spaceship, because space is really big and the way to traverse it is by going to your map, zoom out to either the system or the galaxy, and then click on where you want to go and then you watch a cut scene with your ship traversing space. And then there might a some fights, and you can shoot asteroids and stuff if there are asteriods where you happen to be. That's it. Had this game lifted spaceflight straigt from Freelancer I would have almost been willing to call it amazing, but they didn't, so I won't.

I would honestly barely call this game an RPG. It's a shooter, but more.

Anyway, my followers keep using the worst weapons. I have a rifle guy and he only uses melee weapons, and if he doesn't have melee weapons he uses his fists. The only weapon Sarah will use is a cutter. It doesn't matter much, and honestly it's pretty amusing to watch Adam Jensen run up to five heavily armed spacers with his fists and his dumb necklace and stupid hat.

2%?! Impossibru. You've alt tabbed perhaps? Because then the load dives immediately
Mine's about 3% CPU 100% GPU usage too at 1440p.

Has anyone found the lost ship Supremacy? This is info you get on the same computer in the Echoes of the Past quest for Delgado when you find the info on Kryx's "Legacy" ship. The Supremacy is said to have over 1 million credits on it, but in my searching I only found a lot of Reddit posters, all of whom haven't found it. It's supposed to be in the Sol system somewhere around Saturn.

interesting ... well i did not find it, but when i mention "obnoxiously rich" my current credit count is 18 time higher than Supremacy's loot  ...

but for the sake of discovery ... might try to find it

not alt tabbed photo is of the phone showing stats with game on the screen

Let me try it again

Here is a video of me trying to film it while holding my phone. Excuse me talking to my GF. Hope you can still see how low the CPU % is. Why?

It might be Windows 11 if you're using that, last I checked there was a bug where it reported really low CPU utilization constantly, even during gaming. No idea if they fixed it

Note the shield generator :) I hate it so much that they nearly force you to let them stick out like a sore thumb. Who does that? The reactor and fuel tanks next to each other is another exercise in safety. I'll just pray the enemy never figures out the weak spot in time, I guess.

i'd call it an expansive sandbox RPShooter with some space fun component ...

also any follower i have use the gun i give and equip them with ... (as long as i give them at least 1 related ammo ) i wonder why yours do it differtently ...

noticing that the 2 report about very low CPU usage are Intel 11XXX, although a bit odd ... if it was on P/E cores hybrid i would understand if Starfield did not like it ... but 11XXX series did not have P/E cores, right?

still weird to see a CPU heavy game using so little CPU in 2 case  well on my rig it also use more GPU than CPU, thus i wonder if the game is realy CPU heavy in the end ...

Finished UC Vanguard ... aaaaaaaah, so good and man i love that armor, even more than a Mantis remodelled into Deepseeker, which hilariously look like Ryder (the father) armor in ME:A (another coincidence? ... since Argos logo look like Andromeda Initiative logo  ) plus the color scheme goes well with my ship color scheme :rockout:

Mine is not a 11xxx, it is a 12700k, running stock with both P and E cores enabled.

You win @ shipbuilding skills. Damn son
it's just a Shieldbreaker that i tweaked with each part i wanted when they became available, but your mobility is higher ...

btw did you nickname your ship? mine could be octapod given the number of retros it has (although it also has 8 more underbelly ) space guppy is the second thing that come to my mind looking at yours

ah, Sarah is totally relaxed ... it seems

A friend and I have noticed this on Zen 3 as well. I don't think it's CPU dependent. Just a Win11 bug

How are you measuring your performance? I used the Xbox overlay because the Nvidia one doesn't work. I'll try with hwmonitor open and see what my max usage is.

ah, did not notice the stars and moon  (it's Nerevar's fault ... i bet) bah, still look good

also unoptimized? it run quite nice (and still not crashes, lockup or CTD) since day 0, i wonder how it will run once it's optimized then o_O

well i wait to see the issues induced by these, because for sure aside 40ish fps at 100% RRS 70% sharpening FSR2 or moon and star ... it's smooth sailing. (shimmering? well a little but if not focusing on it : not a big problem :D although it would be nice if it was corrected later )

oh well since it's house show then (the ground house not the space mobilehome )

mostly 60fps

You went very fancy with your new place, I got a TV, chair, and bed at my new condo,

How does it differ, one is still 20yrs away, the other one is out.

I feel like I sorta screwed myself by buffing the pistols, ballastic weapons, rifles, and med kits. Because now I am past level 30 and need to grind to get a skill point to upgrade piloting so I can finish the main mission.

Boy do I feel dumb. Many mentioned perhaps PSU was pulling too much power. No, I am just dumb. I built this rig 6 months ago and rushed through it. I put the CPU fan on the wrong side of the heatsink... so the GPU was holding steady at 75 degrees some of the air was getting blown up to the CPU because the CPU was blowing the hot air back into the case rather than out the back through the case exhaust fan... CoreTemp showed all cores hitting 97% !!!!! I have fixed the fan issue and will be purchasing an additional fan for top exhaust.

Edit: also had CPU fan set to SILENT in BIOS. LOLOLOL :slap:
Yeah, those are problems. You got it sorted out though. Your temps should be much better now.

Nice rig!

this game with the locked FOV is a much much better experience on an ultrawide.

Ain't she beautiful :rockout:

Let me counter that with my custom built barge. Slightly low on mobility at 73, but I rarely have to worry too much about the sluggishness.
