PNY RTX 4070 Ti XLR8 OC - New worse BIOS/version?

PNY has been silent since the beginning of this case, I sent the question to them through all possible channels and... Silence.
Anyone willing to send a question to PNY? The more tickets they get on this issue the sooner we know their explanation.

Flash a new card and risk turning it into a brick? I'm not a Rockefeller to be able to afford such a risk ;)
I will most likely return the card if PNY remains silent and does not offer any solution...

But what does PNY say about the matter?

I have an anwser from support:
The RTX 4070 Ti do have Fan Stop activated.
On the latest versions of the Bios the FAN speed is 1450rpm at 30% compared to 1000rpm for previous versions of the Bios.

The good news is that if Velocity Software is on and "auto" button was pressed, fan stays on 0 RPM when temp dont exeedes some temp (about 35 degrees, maybe some less)

VelocityX has another advantage, it doesn't need to run after LED disabled :p

It's permanant !

PNY's response like from Monty Python's Flying Circus xD

I've reached out to PNY and notified them of this thread.

They are willing to provide an updated vBIOS with the original fan speed to all users. Just contact them using the website's support form.

You, sir, are awesome!

Thank you for your intervention at PNY :)

I wonder if VBIOS will be provided only to those who request it, or maybe every new card will come with it? Hmm.

Just curious, has anyone reached out to PNY to get the old vBIOS yet? How was the process?

I sent my first inquiry on September 19 and so far no response, on Tuesday (September 26) I sent another inquiry and also silence.... :/

It's a BIOS update, it could take a month.

It would be nice if the manufacturer at least informed about the acceptance of the application and gave approximately when the update could be expected... At this moment? No response to applications/emails and I have no idea what to expect, it seems a bit as if they were avoiding the topic and counting on me to let it go :/

I saw (probably) your comment on Techlord. Thanks for raising this issue. I bought the card anyway. I'm gonna check if it's the case in my situation aswell.
If anybody receives the bios from PNY could you please upload it to techpowerup?
BTW will flashing the BIOS void the warranty?

Sure, if PNY kindly responds to my e-mails and inquiries in the "support" section, I will share it here, unfortunately, so far there is still silence, no response since September 19. It's hard to say whether updating the BIOS on your own will void the warranty. Personally, I prefer not to risk it and am waiting for the official update. PS: Yes, the comment on the techlord website is mine:) As in other places, to warn as many potential buyers as possible.

I'm gonna make my own inquiry to PNY and also gonna call them.

Nice :)

I have the first response from PNY Europe, so far they asked for the bios version and nothing more, in response I gave the number of the unfortunate BIOS version and the address to this topic.

Hi PNY Europe :D

UPDATE!
PNY from the EU branch took pity and yesterday by email I received an update file with bios 95.04.3C.40.C1, a few clicks and the matter was settled :D

The card starts from 1000RPM as expected, unfortunately, the miraculous results from the TPU test are a little lacking, but I guess it is strongly dependent on the specific piece (placement of factory thermal paste) and the set load, to this ambient temperature, etc., currently it looks as follows under the highest possible load I was able to set in CP 2077 (Path Tracing 1440P)

Full stock, closed case, ambient temperature ~22.5'c (under desk ~24.5'c)
Full stock, OPEN case, ambient temperature ~22.5'c (under desk ~24.5'c)
UV 2835MHz/1,000V, closed case, ambient temperature ~22.5'c (under desk ~23.5'c)
UV 2835MHz/1,000V, OPEN case, ambient temperature ~22.5'c (under desk ~23.5'c)

BIOS I received: TPU base

LINK to the update file [update at your own risk!];) - after extracting, follow the instructions.

At these ~1000-1100RPM quiet coils emerged from the background :D They are not very loud, but nevertheless they are not totally soundless, just, you can hear them only after diving under the desk, from a sitting position I am not really able to catch them, ~3/10 on the coil-phobia scale :kookoo:

Those temps ain't bad tbh. Only the hotspot is on the hotter side (lol, it's a hotspot after all).
Anyway it's looking good.
The only thing that concerns me is the coil whine. Grabbed this model because this one, alongside with gainward phoenix emit least possible coil whine.

BTW your setup looks Chad.
What CPU did you pair with the card?
Well done and thanx Bartek

Unfortunately, it's getting harder and harder to find completely soundless coils.... But these really are quiet, only the biggest quietomaniacs will have objections :)

Thanks! :D

I've added full specifications to the profile.

Do you have any different PSU nearby? Maybe it's the cause of the coil whine? 650W seems to be barely enough for the setup.

It is definitely not the fault of the power supply in this case ;) I already had the opportunity to test exactly this model of card in my kit sometime in February iiiii that piece was completely silent, 0/10 (0-totally silent / 10-very loud)

In my personal scoring it was the February model that had 0 out of 10 coil volume, my current one is 3 out of 10? It is acceptable, can only be heard in complete silence and that's after diving under the desk where I have my computer :)

The power supply has a light operation, after UV the consumption of the whole kit is clearly below 400 watts and yet you can still hear the coil.

Besides, as I wrote, the PNY RTX 4070 Ti XLR8 OC from February was completely silent exactly in my configuration (i haven't changed anything except the GPU graphics card since then).

Alirght, I ordered 7800x3d and the same card. When it arrives I will let you know how the bios situation is in my case + if the coil whine is present.
I am extremely sensitive to this issue and it bothers me a lot. Had to return 10 out of 12 GPUs I ordered within last 6 months. I feel absolutely zero remorse when returning whining GPUs despite manufacturers' claims about it being normal.
This is the thing that makes me nervous whenever buying a GPU

Fully understandable, if my copy was a bit noisier I would also return it to the store without remorse, paying so much for a GPU, however, you can already have some requirements there.

Good luck with the coil lottery :)

PS: My PS5 has a slightly larger coil whine (5 out of 10?) and somehow I can stand with it :p But the fact is, from a PC in such a budget you can demand a little more.

PS II: the biggest coil whine I've heard is the PowerColor RX 6700 XT Hellhound.... It was just a competitor! (10 OUT OF 10) SCREAMED SO MUCH THAT I COULD HEAR IT THROUGH OPEN HEADPHONES IN THE QUIETER MOMENTS OF THE GAME.

Metallic Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz all the time under load, tragicomedy :fear:

That became quita an offtop but anyway - I've noticed and read somewhere that cards with 12VHPWR instead of 6+8 pin or 2x8pin or 3x8pin connectors are very likely to produce very little to none coil whine and it seems to be true. That's the main reason behind selecting this PNY model over asus/gigabyte.
BTW Asus is notorious of the massive coil whine their GPUs produce.
Had RTX 4070 gainward phoenix with 12vhpwr and it was absolutely dead silent. Then came across Asus RTX 4070 double fan - it was a buzzer. Absolutely horrible, horendous buzz.
I had very unpleasant confrontation with 2 RTX 3060 Ti, also asus double fan (same cooling solution) and the noise was also unbearable.

My Zotac was the cheapest 4070Ti at the time, has 12VHPWR with 3x 8pins, and almost no coil whine.. got super lucky by the sounds of things.

so at the end you can hear some coil whine?
