Seagate Announces Licensed Seagate Game Drive PS5 NVMe SSD

PlayStation gamers can now experience the speed and technology of Seagate's PCIe Gen 4 NVMe solid state drives (SSD) on their consoles. Today, Seagate Technology Holdings announced its officially licensed for PlayStation Seagate Game Drive PS5 NVMe SSD. The drive offers gamers the latest PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD technology and the fastest performance from the company's line of officially licensed for PlayStation storage products - bringing speed, endurance, and high capacity to PlayStation 5.

Delivering sequential read speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s, the Seagate Game Drive PS5 NVMe SSD catalyses PCIe Gen 4 power with transfer rates up to two times faster than PCIe Gen 3 SSDs. The drive is built with a Seagate-validated E18 controller and 3D TLC NAND to provide advanced speed and durability for console gaming. With a minimalistic heatsink that was designed to seamlessly fit the PlayStation 5 console, the SSD maximises gaming performance and protects the drive's storage from thermal throttling. With simple installation, gamers can play PlayStation 5 games directly from the drive.

Not really, considering that most other top-tier 2TB, Gen 4 drives with sinks and similar or better specs are ~$100-120 atm.. the rest of the price is going towards paying for the "PS5 tax"

I had not realized prices have fallen that far. This seems like a 530 with a special Heatsink and those are about $15 cheaper.

Can currently get gen 4x4 4tb for 170.00 why would I but this to get half the capacity and save 20.00. Nope.

The point of this shared branding is making it easier for clueless grandmother to buy something that will work. Probably some market research firm got paid a bunch of money to tell either seagate or sony (or both) that this is worth doing, even when right off the bat they advertised what was one of the best (and currently relatively cheap) compatible options, the wd sn850.

Anyone know who in the hell is Silicon Power is? They got a 2TB PS5 drive with similiar specs for $99, while the 4TB is $199.99.

Not necessarily the best performant compared to newer stuff but those prices are pretty amazing and you don't need all that much for the PS5 (beware they can be one of those brands that like to switch components around, personally I prefer to buy directly from the nand manufacturers - micron, wd/kioxia, samsung, hynix - even if the price is a bit less competitive)

Not necessarily the best performant compared to newer stuff but those prices are pretty amazing and you don't need all that much for the PS5 (beware they can be one of those brands that like to switch components around, personally I prefer to buy directly from the nand manufacturers - micron, wd/kioxia, samsung, hynix - even if the price is a bit less competitive)

I hear ya! I only use WD and Samsung. I use to rock Seagate until one day all my data magically disappeared (this was long ago, but it still haunts me).

I've used SP's drives in the past, no real problems, but as already stated, they're not the fastest around, but still reliable AND reasonably priced...

However, for the past several years, I have stuck to, and had the best luck with the WD Black series, specifically the SN750x & more recently the 850x, which is one of the fastest, most reliable drives on the market ATM, and with the recent rock bottom prices, the best bang for your buckies too
