Recently I've considered upgrading my system. When I built my PC it was just for gaming. But I've taken on other hobbies that require light video and photo editing. As well some streaming. For now I'd like to stay on the AM4 socket. And maybe dabble in 1440p gaming but staying 1080p gaming for now. I have a budget of $800. My current specs are as listed.
  • Ryzen 5 3600 cooled by Noctua NH-L12 Ghost S1
  • ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I Gaming mini ITX
  • 16 GB DDR4-3200
  • 2 1Tb NVME SSDs
  • RTX 2060 SUPER FE
  • NZXT H1
I'm looking at upgrading my CPU as well my GPU. Recently I've been recommended the R7 5800X3D. Noctua lists my cooler as compatible with the 5800X3D, just can't overclock. With Gigabyte silently releasing the 4060 low profile. I though about completely jumping over the 30 series of GPUs. But if the 5800X3D is going to be too weak for the 4060 LP. Then I'm open to changing what GPU I should choose. Or if I should go up to the R9 5900X/5950X.
Ultimately I don't know what to choose. I'm not really sure if an upgrade is entirely worth it right now. I appreciate the any help I receive, thank you.

Go for the 5800X3D if you game more, for light CPU tasks it'll be a bit slower than 5900/5950 but if it's just a hobby you could wait a bit more, plus it's very efficient.

GPU avoid anything 4060/70 especially the 8gb version, maybe a RDNA2 or Ampere (though those seem still expensive new), 7800XT is good as well. Though I would recommend waiting for the launch of super cards which hopefully will fix the 4060/70 and maybe AMD could react by lowering prices.

Get 32gb of Ram as well, I believe DDR4 is very cheap now.

I think I've definitely settled on the 5800X3D. I hadn't really thought of upgrading my RAM. But since DDR4 is pretty cheap. Why the heck not haha. I'll keep an eye out for the Super cards to come if any. Thanks for the input!

3 months is too long to wait LOL

5800X3D is a lot of heat on a low profile HSF. Plan to undervolt and expect it will overheat and downclock under heavy load. It is absolutely the best option for gaming on AM4, but may require a larger case.

Yeah I'm thinking about ditching my H1 case. That way I can fit an AIO in the build. Probably will still go SFF.

Any particular reason why?

The Dan C4-SFX is ideal but out of production. I don't think I'd recommend the A4-H20 I'm using unless you're willing to play with making baffles to separate CPU and GPU airflow.

I was just watching Optimum Tech's video where he built in the C4-SFX. Really liked the look of the case. Shame they're out of production now though. In fact a lot of 3 slot SFF cases have been discontinued this year.
