RoboCop Rogue City discussion thread.

Eh, what? I've already pre-ordered it, but I don't see any option to download it yet, or am I missing something?

B movies can make for great games, excited to see how this one turns out.

This actually looks really good. If I was not in the middle of several games right now I'd pick it up.

Love it , it is a blast quite literally , and at 4K EPIC RT native , 60 to 80 fps with my 4090.

Wow, didn't expect a 1080p upload after you mentioned your res and spec, and it didn't even seem that smooth just looking around, Did you install the Nvidia driver that just came out for it?

Anyway, been playing it a little on my meager 8700K, GTX 1080 spec. At first the performance was horrible, but much better with the latest driver. My one nit pick so far is it seems you have to make sure side quests are set to being tracked for their completion to register. I easily had the full 6 Serve and Protect violations detected, but only got 3. What's worse is a lot of times the menu to set objectives to be tracked doesn't even open via the Tab key like it should. I found out too late a workaround is opening the map via M, then clicking the Objectives tab.

So it appears I'm stuck not being able to complete those side objectives, which is annoying since skill upgrade points are far and few between at the start of the game, AND there's no NG+, so you can't retain them on subsequent playthroughs.

Graphics wise it's not bad, reflections are good even without RT, and oil drum fires look very realistic. Ghostrunner II has IMO better graphics though, and it's WAY more optimized. However due to having run out of space on my 500 GB NVMe, I'm running it on a WD Black 2TB HDD for now, which is only reading at 77 MB/s due to how much I have on it.

It's not a bad game, definitely has that original RoboCop look and feel from the movie. The humor is good too, but I don't like the Torch Head gang's look, dialog, or voice acting, very cheesy. It also feels pretty repetitive. IMO their Terminator Resistance game is far better, and it's DLC that launched later on was even better than the base game..

Robocop is not a 'B movie'. It was a Hollywood studio production which was incredibly popular, insightful and well-made. It was a satirical commentary on 80s American culture, masculinity, labor relations, and crime and was directed by a genius of the genre. I guess if you aren't really familiar with its contemporary reflection then it comes off a cheesy action flick -- but seen in full context it is a masterpiece of subversive art.

B movies can be all of those things. It was a low-budget sci fi flick... basically the definition of B movie.

It won an Academy Award and is generally considered one of the best sc-fi films ever made. It had a budget of $13.7million in 1987 which was not low budget. You are wrong on this one. Sorry. You should read up on it and watch it again with fresh eyes -- I think you might see it in a new light.

Same here. I'm sure I'll get it eventually. :) I've just got to finish Kingdom Come: Deliverance, W40k: Boltgun, Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield, and the two Alan Wake games first. :ohwell:

I think you're right, I'm definitely considering it a B movie unfairly. I've actually seen not too long ago (3 years or so) on movie night - but had the opposite reaction - I did not think it aged that well and remembered it being better than it was.

I think i unfairly lump Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Robocop into "B movie" category when they're really not. Comparing them to like Terminator series, Star Wars, Back to the Future and Bladerunner, Fifth Element etc. etc... It's certainly top 50 sci fi movies - but when I think "great sci fi" Robocop is pretty far down the list -- but that's more of a personal bias.

Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers are all Paul Verhoeven directed. Perhaps you just don't care for his style, or something about his method doesn't fit into your notion of classic sci-fi cinema. It's completely fine -- I am not a fan of certain director's styles and that is a personal consideration that cannot be judged. No need to feel bad about it.

I like the cut of your Jib! Welcome to TPU! :toast:

Robocop was made on a fairly low budget ($13 million) but you can hardly tell. I wouldn't call it a B-movie because the production level even with that low budget was top notch.

Oh I don't feel bad about it, just did a bit more research and you were right :toast:

I picked those movies specifically because they're Verhoeven flicks, and they're kind of all got a bit of the B movie grindhouse feel to them - I think a lot of people associate them with being B movies because of that style.

Top grossing films of 1987 were "3 Men and a Baby" with a budget of ~$12m, "Fatal Attraction" ~$14m, "Beverly Hills Cop 2" ~$27m (half probably going to Eddie Murphie's salary), "Good Morning Vietnam" ~$14m.

To call $13.7m 'low-budget' is an odd take.

EDIT: Perhaps that came off a bit harsh. I just meant to judge it in relation to its time period, since everything can seem distorted seeing that films now are done in a completely different system with a completely different financial outlay and forecast.

Compared to $40-80 mil for Total Recall?

Hot diggity damn, those $%#@ mods at it again!:p

I'd thought there was a longer thread on Robocop, but I think that was in the guru3d forums. I'm playing the game at 3840x1080 (exactly 1/2 4K) at max ingame setting and it runs great, no stuttering or crashes, unlike DSR which is now a stuttering and CTD mess (was running fine previously). Robocop Rogue City is just a fun old skool style shooter, plenty of exploding heads and gore, exactly the way I like it! I dunno why it doesn't get more love in the various forums ...

Edit - I tried it on my 2nd rig - R9 3900X + 32GB RAM + Nitro+ RX 6900XT - with FSR Q and it rans just fine on my 3440x1440 75Hz Freesync monitor, dun recall the framerate, but it was pretty playable.
