will NH-D15s be enough?

Just got a 14900k for a great price. Considering NH-D15s(160mm) for my H5 Flow case (165mm height limit) over AIO since its less expected to have failures over years. (i want to install a cooler and forget about it for 5-10 years)
Wondering if reducing the 14900k to 200W is a solid move for longevity with the air cooling(i dont care that it would be on 92% performence).
Main usage: Maya, After Effects, gaming.

Any thoughts? thanks!

Only concern i have if his v card has a backplate or at least his mobo has a vme slot above the top PCI-e slot. Reasons being it's a massive cooler and space from the cooler and GFX card can be real tight.
The Noctua compatibility information covers motherboards so any individual motherboard can be checked against a cooler.
 
Besides space restrictions like @AsRock already mentioned, it will be enough. The NH-U14s allows my 13700 with a 90° limit to draw much more than 200w, initially around 265w and then around 230-245w.

I know what they say, it's a known concern regardless what they want let you know. Yeah but not everyone knows that the video card can be as close as 2-3mm away from the cooler, which if that don't raise a concern maybe hitting the latch to release the card is.

This is usually fine for office machines, but since you're asking about temps and you're running high end parts, I'll mention that many TIM's wont maintain their performance for 5-10 years.

It will probably help, but I'll bet the 14900k lasts 10 years+ at stock settings if not abused.
After 5 years, newer tech is likely to have made it irrelevant anyway.
 
I'm using a U12A (7 heatpipes) for my all-8-P-cores @ 5Ghz 12700K.
 
It's very strange to pay this much for an expensive CPU and then limit it because of cooling. It "will be enough" in the sense that it's not going to throttle like hell but it's not optimal.

AIOs are fine as far as reliability is concerned, failures are incredibly rare. I would not go with anything less than a 360mm AIO for this CPU, especially since you say you're gonna be using it not just for gaming.

I've had my chip clocked 5.6 vs 5.3/5.4 UV for 30% less power i get 2% less fps at 1080P... and if you make up the $$ and time and instead spend it on tuning ram or getting a faster ram kit you will get more fps anyways.

IMHO adding an extra 150W and extra $$$ to cooling for 5% on multicore is not worth it at all.

D15 will cool the cpu just fine without power restrictions with well thought case flow and normal ambient room temps.

Want thermal head room and faster P-cores, you shut off the e-cores. Some people do this as an alternative, I suppose it makes sense for cpu heavy gaming. In fact, you could shut off some e-cores instead of all of em'. Tune the rig as you go.
 
Enough? Yes, insofar as it will sufficiently cool the CPU and you won’t have any obvious issues. Probably. But if you want thermal headroom and to squeeze every last drop of performance from the chip I am afraid going to liquid cooling would be the only option.
 
Cap the CPU to 175w, maybe also u/v it if brave. Even in high threaded workloads it will be probably within 5% of max performance, and the cooler should handle this load providing case air flow is good enough.

got if for more than half a price and i dont care about losing these 10 precents of perfomance that make this cpu a grill. also in my H5 Flow im not able to have more than 280mm of AIO

its d15s not d15, thats why im a bit worried.
 
Just checked my D14 cooler and it can cool up to approx 270W CPUs. So D15 should have no problem with your CPU. Got my D14 for 10 years now and just upgraded the fans to RGB ones. Had to order a AM4/AM5 adapter for it from Noctua for free recently. They shipped it with Fedex in 4 days with home delivery. Love Noctua.

They said it would also be fine if I used one fan instead of two at that limit set (not enough clearance in the case with outer fan moved up above the Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB RAM I am using but placed the fans back & centre with air being pulled through the fins instead of centre & above RAM (pushing air thru fins) in the end as VRM Heatsink is lower than the RAM modules in height). As you are capping the power to 200W, then you shouldn't have any issues in my experience.

thanks, how did you you limit the power? XTU, BIOS? its only changing the wattage or you need to mess with the U/V and other settings?

I did it through XTU as lazy in old age but I did set the "All Limits Off - 90C limit" in the BIOS (it is the Multicore Enhancement setting or whatever it is called on your board). Under XTU I set the Turbo Boost Short Power Max & TB Power Max to 240W & LCCMax to 275W. I could probably go higher on the Short (& others) but temps are good & performance is more than fine by me with all core running at 5.8Ghz & 6Ghz on 1-2 cores & no AVX Offset (All P-Core Ratio #1 Offsets are at -1 with Temp Cutoff #1 for them set to 85C & only the P-Core 1 & 2 Offsets set also to -1 when Temp#2 set to 90C). Haven't seen any throttling at all with those settings unless running Cinebench R23/R24 but then it is not going to hit that hard in the usage I put it through)

Ah, you worry too much. That D15s is like having two hyper 212 coolers mounted on the cpu at the same time.

Now if I told you I'm cooling a 13700K with an AMD wraith Prism cooler, would you believe me?
