Good decision on giving missus a treat. Otherwise she'd possibly question the credit card statement.

why that monitor? you could have gotten a high refresh 1080p for that same price. even if not gaming, high refresh makes work related tasks just smoother on the eye.

Wondering if I made a mistake TBH with latest tech purchases.... A Logitech G915TKL & some Edifier studio monitors...

I like the typing experience & switches on the Logitech but the way you have to go all round the houses to program the RGB effects as well as the shift symbols on the keys not being illuminated are grinding on me a bit (& this is after an hour or so of setting it up!). Not really keen on RGB (I have it all turned off on all devices other than key illuminations) but I did like that the key symbols fully illuminated on my Corsair (*spit) K70 Mk2 RGB & how simple it was in iCUE to set them up. Will have to see how I get on with it, if I don't then will go back to the Corsair keyboard & let the wife use the G915TKL (I do love her really!) instead.

The speakers, even though active monitors, the maximum volume from the onboard amplifier is extremely low & had to check if they were actually powered up! Audio is clear through them though but have to have system volume set at 85% compared to 10% on my old Harmon Kardon "Glass Dildo" speakers that been using for past decade (just fancied a change & more room under my desk without the subwoofer). Mrs may also have some new speakers as well if I decide I want to go back to the Harmon Kardon's.

I have a Logitech PowerPlay mat turning up tomorrow so hoping that will at least stop me having to keep plugging the G903 mouse in to charge at least!

Very rare that I buy items that I don't like or start to regret buying this soon. I really should start listening to my own advice in "if not broke, don't fix!"

One "tech" item that I am extremely happy with purchasing this week is an Air Purifier (£40 on Amazon). Made a huge difference to my breathing after 24 hours as not needing to use my Ventolin inhaler several times a day now, in fact don't think I have used it at all since plugging the Purifier in!

Technically you should have system volume at 100% when using external speakers. Then make adjustments either directly on speaker or inside whatever player is in use. If on speaker volume is set to 100% it might be tripping something that keeps them from blowing or overheating the amplifier. Point here is you want the full signal all the way through to endpoint (or at least inside player).

That said it does sound as if you should consider if these Edifier are faulty enough to contact their support or outright return them. If there is one thing speakers with an onboard amplifier are not it is underpowered for a home or small studio.

Where I have to have the speakers it is a pain adjusting volume on them hence why set the volume on the speakers high & use the system volume control (same with the HK's). I have dropped the volume on them to around 75% & will have to get used to having the system volume up higher than usual. I don't tend to have the volume output high anyway as only for me whilst sat at the desk so "shouldn't" cause an issue with the speakers overall (It just takes me longer to get used to change nowadays with old age). There is no distortion or anything coming from them.
I will have to check the PMPO/RMS output settings on them as probably lower than the HK's.

You do understand the same thing is being accomplished only in a different order. If you never get up to touch the speaker control it shouldn't matter if it is set to an appropriate level instead of the system volume. What does matter is if your new speakers are actually exhibiting some form of intelligence (yet to be determined) that is creating aberration you noticed.

Technically speaking doesn't mean hard rule. Should my theory prove correct nothing says you can't leave a ~25% adjustment range for system sound. Getting below theoretical threshold operating condition is the critical element.

Bought the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black for my sig rig but I didn't like the audible fans so it's on the 7700x. I still need memory so I can finally start testing
Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black.jpg

I'm a bit disappointed that you can't swap fans that easily, without ghetto modding of course

ninja edit: you can install 120mm fans but the heatsink is designed for 140mm

Bought the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black for my sig rig but I didn't like the audible fans so it's on the 7700x. I still need memory so I can finally start testing

That first fan looks like it'll block any memory stick around.
Will you swap it to the back of the cooler?

If you look where offset and staggered fins are it will become apparent he installed cooler backwards.

From Noctua's documentation, the NH-D15 looks symmetric, so no issues there.
However, according to the same documentation, it allows the use of 32mm tall RAM modules without raising the front fan. I'm just under the impression there's no memory that'd fit.

We can fix it.

Also bought an ADATA 512 GB m.2 SSD for one of my brother's work PCs. Let there be speed!

Now i know why i bought an Alpenfoehn Olymp for my Endor V1.0 rig with the AMD Ryzen 2700x. There i was able to install my RAM direct under.
