Hi guys,

I have no idea what I'm talking about, so please bear with me :) I've had my current Desktop since 2020, and would like to upgrade my graphic card to at least 150-200%+ performance to current one. Can any of you recommend me a suitable one (it doesn't have to be Nvidia)? I mainly use it for editing videos/AI-video-upgrades etc..... and ofc. Football Manager :D

In advance, thank you.

Mike.

hello welcome to tpu

what psu are you using?

According to the retailer's website where I bought it from, it's 500 watt :)

Google Translate from Danish to English.
10th generation performance
The computer is equipped with a 10th gen. Intel Core i5 hexa core processor from the Comet Lake family, which can run several demanding processes simultaneously without delay or performance loss, which makes it suitable for e.g. streaming. When more power is needed, the computer can switch to turbo mode at up to 4.3GHz for extra performance. The processor is followed by 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, which provides high performance in large open-world games.

Graphics with nitro boost
With the advanced Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super graphics card, the computer can deliver excellent image quality in demanding 3D games with the 1080p resolution and high frame rate. The card is equipped with 6 GB of fast RAM and the next-generation Turing platform, so you can run fascinating VR environments on your computer.

SSD storage
The computer uses a lightning-fast 512GB SSD storage that lets you boot the system or open games in seconds.

HDMI
The HDMI 2.0 output can be connected to an HD TV or a projector, so you can display images and videos in up to 4K UHD resolution on a large screen.

Connections:
- 1x Lightning fast USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port
- Total number of USB ports: 8
- Lightning-fast dual band wi-fi-ax, Bluetooth 5.1, Gigabit LAN port
- 1x HDMI 2.0b port
- 1x DisplayPort port
- 1x DVI port
- 2x 3.5 mm audio port out
- 1x 3.5 mm audio port in
- 2 x 3.5 mm microphone port

Other features:
- DTS:X Ultra
- 500 Watt power supply
- Windows 10 Home

and would like to upgrade my graphic card to at least 150-200%+ performance to current one.

Do any of your edit tools use CUDA? Or NVENC?

If so, then grab a 16GB 4060ti, if not, then grab an AMD 7800, 7700, 6800, or 6700xt.

You didn’t mention the potential budget. That’s kind of important. Suggested cards will vary upon that.

Come on man, bros don’t let bros buy a 4060Ti 16GB. I understand where you’re coming from (8 gigs is just not enough VRAM), but that does not justify that abhorrent abomination and its price. At least a slight upsell to a 4070 in this case would make more sense, IMO.

Suggesting any GPU currently on sale is tough.

4060 is weaker and more expensive than a 3060 (used). Anyone on this site recommending a 4xxx series card without a shed load of preconditions should have their membership card reviewed.

The issue here is the abilities of your prebuilt and PSU, overall. 3060 models might strain it a bit too much. You may not want to hear this, but the better option is to save for a new PC.

I would consider looking on ebay or similar for an HP or Dell branded 3060. This will be a better fit for your system than many other options.

10th gen i5s are still pretty strong though.

At this point I'd look for a used 3060ti, or a RTX 4070 and maybe a PSU.

3060 ti was a great improvement for me over 1660 ti. I even ran it with a 500W PSU for a little while. I play mostly highest settings at 1440p. Only use RTX in Minecraft though.

I had 3060 12gb and 4060 8gb dual (it was on loan), now I have 1660S paid $70 and I must say it doesn't suck at all,
on cp2077 if I don't use rt reflections everything is smooth.
4060 was better than 3060 for me...
maybe it also depends on monitor...

Not by most assessments the best time to be shopping pc parts. Save your money or maybe grab an OEM card for cheap.

Plus, wasn't entirely sure no proprietary connectors or other OEM specific elements were present. Much less a second 6+2 PCIe on current power supply.

The only stipulation OP states was wanting double the performance of his 1660s. That's the 4060ti. given his power supply limitations a 4070 wouldnt be a great idea, and a used card likely wouldnt be a great idea, as OP purchased a pre built PC, so warning signs for bad used cards wouldnt come naturally. New carries a warranty.

I am not arguing that a 4060Ti is not a good option for him. It’s a decent one. I specifically took umbrage with the 16GB part. It’s not worth the premium and, for his use case of playing FM, is also completely pointless.

Are you ok with used? +150% or greater performance with a 500W PSU allows for:

6600/6650 XT
6700
2070S
7600
4060
2080
*2080S
*6700/6750 XT
4060 ti 8GB (the 16GB version only exists to upsell people to the 4070)
*2080 ti
3070
*7700 XT
*6800
4070

*These cards are around 250W TBP, which is pushing the comfort limit of a 500W PSU IMO.

IMHO, for that machine's specs, the RTX 4060 Ti is the best option, followed by the RX 7700 XT.
