Nvidia 3060m 12Gb

Hello.
I have a Chinese 3060m card in my machine with 12GB of memory. I would like to put a different bios on it so that the maximum allowed power is not 80w and maybe also so that the official nvidia drivers can also go up to it.
However, I found only 6GB bios in the database, which is adequate in all other respects. If I put one of these on it, will it only see 6gb or will it see all 12gb? Or maybe if someone has a suitable bios, I would also appreciate it.

I'm not sure... I didn't even know there was a 3060 12gb mobile. If its some kind of Chinese modification, it might need that custom bios and drivers to work... but just a guess.

This is not an official or authorized GPU configuration, so you will not find many options for VBIOS as they are signed and only Nvidia can do so. 12 GB mobile 3060's do not exist in the official market, but were likely planned at some point, and that's likely where this BIOS has come from. Nvidia is very hostile to unauthorized designs, and your bootleg adaptation likely sticks as close to a reference design board as possible.

I have found the BIOS for your frankenstein, but it also has a 80 W limit. All matching VBIOSes do. It is unlikely you will find a BIOS with a higher power allowance that also supports 12 GB VRAM.

I'm not sure... I didn't even know there was a 3060 12gb mobile. If its some Chinese creation, it might need that custom bios and drivers to work... but just a guess.

There's 4 outcomes if you decide to flash:

1. It works but your memory capacity is reduced to 6 GB
2. It boots but displays garbage and/or has stability issues because of mismatched memory timings between physically installed hardware and VBIOS configuration
3. It will brick the GPU, requiring a blind flash or booting with another primary card to recover
4. It works correctly with all 12 GB correctly detected (unlikely but possible)

Do you have another spare to get video out of before you test flash? If not, then it's unsafe. If you do, you could go by experimentation here. There's not many resources in your case, your card is not supposed to exist, after all. Further consideration must be given that laptop GPU implementations can be a minefield at times, with them often having quirks of their own to suit the particular target laptop's peculiarities. Higher-end gaming laptops usually stick to Nvidia reference.

Thanks, there is also an intel iris XE in the machine, in principle I can boot with it if there is a problem with the nvidia card. I'm still thinking, but I think I'll try an otherwise good BIOS, and then we'll see.... It would be good to examine such a card, because I don't think the Chinese made a new one from scratch, so I think they're either a mobile 3060, on which there was already space for 12GB, or plain 3060, on which the performance is reduced. I just thought, I'm sure I'm not the first to think about this, it would be nice to have some experience

There is a lot more in the Chinese market like laptop cpu chipsets made into atx motherboards and housing laptop processors… I think techyescity reviews them from time to time… I think the first one I ever saw was a mobile Radeon gpu but turned into a discreet gpu and yes you need certain drivers to work…

There are a whole series of these for sale on Aliexpress; they are sold by Jieshuo.

There is the 2060m 12gb, the 2070m 8gb, the 2080m 8gb, the 2080ti 22gb, the 3050tiM 8gb, 3060m 12gb, and the 3080m 8gb

On the AMD side, there is a RX580 16gb (which is an RX 570 w/16gb), and I have seen a 6600m.

My RX 580 16gb has cleared customs and hopefully, I will have it sometime in the next week.

I am curious about what they can do. They are all relatively inexpensive, so I'll probably order 1 or 3 of them and see how they go - they do have Frankendriver support.
