A new user necro'd an old thread but, made me aware of a tool I hadn't been before.
Im very late to this party, but thought this might help someone. I had a very similar problem multiple times when messing with/changing drivers (it drove me nuts multiple times over the years). And the solution was to use atikmdag-patcher. In case you still have that GPU collecting the trash somewhere, might be worth trying.
rather than encourage further hijacking and necro'ing of that thread, I figured I'd start a thread dedicated to the software tool, itself.

Any experiences/warnings (from TPUers) on the tool?

With newer versions of HDMI and Displayport now being used this is probably no longer needed for modern monitors

At least from the description(s), it seemed like this tool is capable of far more than that.

+ a lot of us are Still Rocking 'oldkit' Loud and Proud

For instance, even though I'm finally upgrading away from my beloved Vega,
I'm still using this display, purchased when the video review of it was still fresh.

Eventually, my display will be moved to one of my 'retro' builds, and I have an 'at release' VG248QE (that I never got the Gsync mod. for ) too.
This tool might be very handy for the pixel clock modifications, alone (on my older builds).

I've known about this tool for a while. Its use case is very situational but if you need it, it is indeed a godsend

this is some very old and dark magic you have found
I advise caution young apprentice these are forces not to be trifled with
